Fun with Vintage Style

Just me... experimenting with vintage hair and makeup... and accessories.

I tried liquid eyeliner for the first time in all my 37 years...

I joked with my daughters that this is how I would dress on school registration day. My 12 year old Lula said 'Wow'. My extremely fashion conscience 10 year old Zola was mortified. And Sydda my teen said that I looked like a 'creepy librarian'.

Hubs was quite surprised upon coming home from work and seeing this particular vintage look. After prodding him for an opinion, he at first said my glasses looked 'funny' ... but after a while, he had lots of very, very complimentary things to say about librarians. ;)

Does your love of vintage things go beyond home decor? How much do you get into vintage and vintage inspired fashion? {Hope you all are having a wonderful summer so far... we are off on our beach vacation in just a few days... Jekyll Island, Georgia!}

  4. Oh I love these pictures and the vintage look. It reminded me of some family members and how they looked back in the day. A couple of them wore those "cat" glasses.

  5. I love, Love, LOVE your vintage look! Those glasses are to-die-for. And you did an excellent job with your photos, making them look vintage as well. You are so CUTE!

    I have these sweet vintage clip-on sunglasses and clipped them on my reading glasses when sitting outdoors with a good book. And I didn't give one iota that they didn't fit the shape of my reading glasses or that the pages were a bit blurry due to some scratches on the clip-ons. I just had to wear them. Once.

  7. Kim,

    You are so beautiful you could pull off any look. I dress vintage as well, not intentionally, just hate clothes shopping! (Yes, I am laughing.)
    Enjoy your vacation at the beach!

  8. You look beautiful...love the look. I love vintage, I wish I were more adventurous when it comes to experimenting and wearing vintage. It's really funny the things people will actually say to you when you do. I say go for it, you look stunning. Just found your blog, can't wait to read more. Take Care, Carrie {the vintage wren}

  11. Aw, thank you, Deborah! Most of my self photos are taken with my cell phone, ha! I always wonder if they look decent or not! You know, I've come to realize that my love of polka dots {black and white to wear and red and white in decor} is really becoming a sweet addiction... and I just had to show my love on my web page, too! After school starts back, I want to do some baking posts and feature the {you know what} that you sent me. I still can't bring myself to use them - so afraid of 'messing them up'... they are so adorable!

  12. Love the look. Can you tell me how you did your hair?

    I love teh vintage look and try to dress that way as often as I can. I found a real treasure haul of genuine vintage dresses today at the local op shop. I was so excited.

  13. Thanks, Esther...Wow, it sounds like you did find a great treasure - I rarely find anything truly vintage... only vintage 'inspired'!

    I started my rolling my hair with hot sticks. Afterwards I brushed it all out till I had a large frizzy head o' hair, ha! Then, starting at the right side of my head around the bottom of my ear, I started twisting it all toward and above the left ear. {my hair is medium length}. I twisted it a circle/ spiral and pinned it there above my left ear. I couldn't decide whether to put the flower in the middle of the 'hair spiral' or beside it, but ended up putting it beside. I hope this makes sense. I just had to play with mine for a while before I got something that looked ok - it was my first real attempt at a vintage up do!

    I have a dear friend that I've known since I was a little girl who is now a vintage hair and make-up guru on YouTube. Please DO check out her videos as she is talented and produces really wonderful tutorials. Let me know what you think! http://www.youtube.com/user/LisaFreemontStreet
