Master Bedroom Hardwood Flooring Project

It feels so good to take one step closer to living in a "normal" home. Not that our homes have to be any form normal, but let's face it, folks, - having this for a bedroom floor for well over a year or two...


...may very well put us in category "Bizarro" or "That Just Ain't Right" or "What Kind of Animal Are You?". You see why I cringe every time someone writes and tells me how beautiful our home is. When I've said in the past that we live in a glorified construction site, I wasn't kidding! And this is just the bedroom part of our construction site at that. I'm saving now for our children's therapy bills...


So maybe we have no trim and our walls look rashy and covered with calamine lotion, but we finally have ourselves a real honest to goodness bedroom floor! {Please excuse the dark photos...there are no windows in our room - only an exterior door - and my attempts to brighten them too much distorted the flooring color.}


I explained in my last entry that one day while hubs and I were spring cleaning, we emptied the bedroom completely. It was at that point that I decided that I could no longer stand the old, worn out carpet, so we just ripped it all out. We already had the hardwood, but we were working on other projects and didn't have the time to install them. So this is how we came to live in the land of subfloor.


Wouldn't it be nice to have an empty room like this {minus calamine lotion plus trim} just for fun activities, like skipping or doing the "Old Time Rocking Roll" powerslide in your socks and skivvies?



I don't know...I'm thinking this little bedroom has some major cottage style potential.


We'll be replacing the exterior door. Since there is so little light in this room, I've toyed with the idea of installing a double french door, or at the very least a single. {Or who knows, maybe even a window?}


But the complete bedroom remodel will come after the main parts of the house are finished. Truth be told, one of the main reasons we went ahead with the flooring installation in this room now is because we have boxes of hardwood stacked up everywhere, and how can you add beadboard to the kitchen walls with flooring piled high against them? {And good thing we moved the flooring inside the house from the garage when we did - our pipes in the garage burst a few weeks back and flooded the area where our hardwood once sat!}



Next weekend, we'll put flooring down in a bedroom that two of my daughters share. They don't want new flooring, however, because they say they'll miss their subfloor. Therapy, I tell you!

{All joking aside, our daughters' subfloor is painted and painted subflooring really can be beautiful. I recommend it to those who hate their carpet but can't or don't want to put down flooring now. I've even seen high grade plywood subflooring stained and it looks absolutely gorgeous. We just never did anything with our bedroom subfloors because our focus has been on other projects, but I surely would have painted them otherwise!}
