Good morning, everyone! I hope this beautiful spring day finds you doing well. Somehow between our vacation and the family dinner we hosted this past weekend, hubs was able to install more beadboard in our main living areas. For this phase of the remodel, we are concentrating on beadboarding the kitchen, dining area, hallway, foyer, and living room. Though we still have the foyer and living room to go, I'd like to share with you the areas that we've covered so far. Please keep in mind that all of our beadboard and trim will be sanded, primed, and painted white.
I should note that I have lost *both* my memory card reader and my
Our hallway is starting to remind me of an old hotel...
memory card for my good camera. I think I put them somewhere when we were getting the house ready for company, but I don't know where. So I used my daughter's little point and shoot for these photos. I wish they were better!We've gone through and added some smaller accent trim pieces at the top of the beadboard under the wide pine boards. For the top of the pine board, we will be adding more accent trim. Here is a mock up of the top piece I am considering, but I want to look at some more to see if I can find something with a more interesting contour. This one is ok and is cost effective, but more curve would be nice. However, this flatter piece will make hanging framed art over the beadboard easier - a curvier piece would jut out further. {Please ignore all the white splotches on the walls...we are prepping them for fresh paint!}
Here are a couple of progress shots of our hallway. I cannot convey just how thrilled I am to finally have beadboard in this area! The beadboard, along with the wide door trim and solid wood doors just really make the space. I'm looking forward to adding the pine ceiling and crown moulding now...and a light! Our hallway is starting to remind me of an old hotel, and I'm thinking about painting pretty numbers on the trim above each door, from 1 to 6.
Here you"ll notice our little piece of mock up accent trim. What a difference a little trim can make!
See my drop cloth curtains? The curtains in this spot are a necessity - we close them when we let our cockatiels, Sunny and Ginger, out of their cage for smooches and cuddles and playtime - which happens more than once daily. They like the kitchen, but I don't allow them in there. :)
I am loving having a faux fireplace in the dining room...even in it's incomplete state! It completely changes the feel of the space. The beadboard wraps around the fireplace wall and window wall...
around the divider wall between the kitchen and dining area and back to the cabinets...{that's Ruby and her stuffed animal duck sunning on the rug there:)}
and finally past the other end of the cabinets to the back door. From the back door, we will continue to wrap the beadboard around the corner and into the rest of the living room. We have another farmhouse style fireplace mantel to build in there first! {See the chalkboard? Apparently my teen thinks the hyacinths stink. Hmmpphh!}
Here are a few more shots of the dining fireplace. We have just a little bit accent trim to add around the opening. Hubs didn't have time to get to it before he left on a business trip this week.
Can you believe I found my first bell shaped cloche the other day at Goodwill for $1.25? Love it!
{Gratuitous dining room shots}
I'm still mulling over what I'm going to do with the inside of the fireplace, but on our trip, I found this antique Victorian cast iron fireplace surround that I will definitely be incorporating. I'm thinking of doing the rest in brick and for inside of the antique surround, inserting a piece of decorative tin painted black. OR, brick the cast iron opening and using decorative tin for the rest. What do you think?
Finally, here is a shot of the foyer area that I cannot wait to beadboard. We knocked out a tiny coat closet in that area to open it up and I'm looking forward to putting a table on that back wall {the cabinet that is currently serving as our TV stand, actually...you can kind of see it in one of the hallway shots above}. It will be perfect to hold beautiful flower arrangements - and it's a nice sunny spot to boot!
Please come back and see me tomorrow as I have a few very important announcements regarding blog changes here at Twice Remembered. I'll see you then!
WOW WOW WOW! = )
ReplyDeleteIt's Gorgeous!
Cannot wait to see the finished project. I <3 your home!
I can't get over how far your house has come with all of your projects, and this is a big one! It's looking wonderful and your fireplace is amazing!

It looks awesome! You are doing an amazing job, and I can't wait to see what it looks like when finished. In particular, I love the curtains! I've always liked curtains and fabric at doorways, and I think it looks great. I also think your idea to number the hallway doors would be really cute and you should definitely do it :)
ReplyDeleteI have beadboard in my kitchen and love it - this is quite the project and it looks spectacular!!!! Jennifer jennsthreegraces
ReplyDeleteLooking great! Can't wait to see it all finished! I'm adding beadboard to my bathroom and seeing yours is making me really excited!
ReplyDeleteKim...it is coming along so great!! I love how you wrapped the beadboard into the other rooms...ties them all together...just beautiful!! I can't wait to see it all painted. I love the cast iron inset...I am picturing both ways and I say...more tin tile than brick...so tin on the outside and brick on the inside. Will wait to hear what you do. Have a wonderful day and hopefully you will find your memory card!
ReplyDeleteHugs to you,
Victoria

Looking forward to seeing the finished product.
It's beautiful but with all the work you're doing I think it might have been easier and cheaper to start NEW, chick! Good going and nice job. Just stunning.

We are about to start doing this very thing in our home. I apologize if you've already posted this, but can you share the details of the beadboard with us? Like is it sheets or tongue-and-groove, if it is sheets how thick did you buy, and how high did you install it? We had a contractor friend tell us to not use the sheets. I want to go the cheapest route, but I don't want it to look like I did. Yours looks so good!!
ReplyDeleteStunning! I love how it looks. You and your hubby are doing an excellent job! I cant wait to see the finished project!
ReplyDeleteWow, it looks fabulous. You guys sure got a lot done. I love how it flows from space to space and the trim is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI have been looking through your archives trying to find the color on your walls in your kitchen and dining area and I can't find it, would you mind telling me the color?
ReplyDeleteThanks~Kelly
i see a lot of painting in your future!!! it is looking so great! good job!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE IT!! so exciting :)
ReplyDeleteLooks fantastic! I love the faux fireplace. We are removing the fireplaces from our relocated house and I told my partner to keep one of the surrounds mounted on a plain wall as a decor feature. He looked at me as if I was crazy! I'm bookmarking this post to show him later and maybe he will call off the men with the white coats.
ReplyDeleteI have a thing for blackboards at the moment too and I want to put some in my place, but I have teenagers as well and I can only imagine some of the things that might appear in chalk. Much worse things than comments about stinky flowers.
:) Katie
loving it!
ReplyDeletecan you tell me where you are buying the beadboard? HD and Lowes here (TX) are only selling the "white" beadboard sheets and they are a pain to pain!
thanks, Mrs T
Kim,
ReplyDeleteIt looks incredible! You and Jeff have outdone yourselves with the beadboard, trim and mantel. I think the red brick will look great and really pop next to the white.
I will be here tomorrow for your news.
Deborah
looking absolutely wonderful, can't wait to see it all done! Great deal on the cloche too. wow
ReplyDeleteIt is looking great! I can't wait to see all that beadboard painted white. The dining fireplace adds so much!
ReplyDeleteWOW so much work but so worth the payoff.
ReplyDeletekim,
ReplyDeletei am always so inspired by your projects. this one is no exception. there is something about raw wood that draws me in...love the look & thickness of the fireplace mantel. i agree that all this beadboard pulls all your rooms together.
btw..what is the height of your beadboard?
judi ;)
That looks awesome. So much work. I can't wait to see it when you are finished.
ReplyDeleteThe beadboard adds such a warm, homey touch, so nice! I'll be anxious to see what you decide on the fireplace. We're getting a mantle from a friend next week and I'm trying to come up with what to do with the faux inside we'll have as well. I'd like to somehow put candles in front of it but I'm not sure yet.
ReplyDeleteGreat pics!
~Michelle
Everything looks amazing! You've done a wonderful job. Congratulations.

ReplyDeleteThis is looking sooooo beautiful!! I'm so jealous! :)
ReplyDeleteIt's so lovely -- and I know how much work that is! I am jealous of your $1.25 cloche!!
ReplyDeleteLovely job. I think brick would tie into your kitchen cabinets. I would paint inside the firebox black to match the cast iron.
