When we were on our trip a few weeks back, we enjoyed browsing a few antique shops on our way home. One of my treasured finds was this lacy white window valance.
When I first saw it, I was immediately reminded of those beautiful and romantic Victorian dresses of long ago.
I'm not normally a frills and lace kind of girl, but I admit, I have a soft spot for dainty white linens. For our home, in moderation, I think it adds a little softness and charm.
There is a rod pocket, but I didn't like the way the curtain looked hung that way - perhaps a little too "froo froo" for my taste. But the black clips, I think, add just the right contrast with a touch of masculinity that keeps it all balanced out.
These sweet little Victorian-esque curtains, too, help soften the hard lines of the lighting fixture.
I don't know if the valance was actually part of an old dress that was repurposed by a thrifty and creative homemaker many years before my time...
But I do like to imagine it that way!
Very sweet, and I do think the black clips and rod add the perfect touch...making it not so "girly". Great find!
ReplyDeleteI love that curtain. What a sweet find! I also think it looks great with the black hardware. If you ever tire of it (you can give it to me)you can make a couple pillow covers.. those would be so cute tooo!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the lovelies.
I love your new valance. A little bit of frill looks very sweet above your sink. (I was always fond of your thrifted pillowcase curtains too!)
ReplyDeleteYour new curtain looks really cute, what a pretty find!!

I think it adds a lovely cottage touch to your window, Kim!
ReplyDeleteI love the combination of the soft and not so soft. It's perfect, especially next to those cabinets... which I love too.
ReplyDeleteI like your imagination!
Not just in decorating, but in "back story creation" as well!
Simply lovely.
ReplyDeleteI love it! I have some similar that I hung from clips too.
ReplyDeletePretty! I like the way you hung them, too.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I do think it adds softness and I love the ruffle lace detail...so pretty! It goes so great against the red cabinets...enjoy!!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Victoria
It is so pretty! I love the detail.
ReplyDeleteThe cottage curtains are beautiful and so unique. Paring them with the black clips was the perfect way to balance everything including the lighting. I love to think they were re-purposed from an old dress and now they hang in a window hence the soft light can gently filter through, making a relaxing view for your family to enjoy every day.
ReplyDeleteYou are right it is gorgeous and a treasure and I think you are right - the clips were the perfect way to keep it from getting too fussy.
ReplyDeleteKim,
ReplyDeleteI love the valance and all the detail (workmanship) in it. I agree, it does remind me of a piece of clothing from times gone by. Clever of you to hang it with the black hardware. Great contrast. What a find!

Such a beautiful little curtain and you are a genius for hanging it this way...it looks AWESOME!!
ReplyDeleteThe valance is great and I like that you hung it with clips rather than a rod thru the pocket. It does add a neat contrast in your kitchen. It's very pretty!

ReplyDeleteHi Kim -
ReplyDeleteI like how you didn't use the treatments rod pocket and instead added your own style to it with the black clips. They really make the lace pop and not look as you stated too frou frou.
I LOVE these, they are amazing. Love the black rings and rod as well. Great job
