Brick Pavers for Cottage , Country, or Old World Backsplash

I found exactly what I was looking for when I revised my beadboard backsplash idea. It's really inexpensive, has lots of character and "old house" appeal, and will be easier to install than tile. What is this miracle material, you might ask? Simple brick pavers. I went to Lowe's the other to see if I could find some that are thin enough to use a backsplash. I checked out the Outdoor/Lawn and Garden area, but nope...not there. The Lowe's associate told me they didn't carry them. Not deterred, I headed inside to the tile department and lo and behold, they had them! Just .52 each, too!

I brought home a few pavers to play around with...I painted one a bisque color that will coordinate nicely with our appliances. Since our cabinets are going to be red (paint swatch in photo below - I decided against Russett as people commnented that it looked "pinkish/fuscia" and instead went with a shade by Waverly called "Cherry") , I thought the backsplash needed to be nice and bright. I next painted a brick the same color as the cabinets. I tried to white wash it but the result was very pink. What worked really well was to just apply a white glaze and then wipe it off, which left glaze down in the pits and crevices...a very nice look. So I know for sure that I'll use bisque paint for most, if not all, the pavers - but I may decide to throw a few of the red ones in there for a little more punch. I'll just have to see.

Nice look. Will you be putting a sealer on them? That might change the color too, like glazing on pottery.

Thanks! I hope it works out ok! It will be a little while before we install it because hubs has to first do some hardwiring for the undercabinet lights. Can't wait to get it up!

Hey Kim, love the pavers! I met with a customer today at her home and guess what she had painted cabinets - RED!! They looked beautiful, she had what I thought was a slate backsplash, she explained that it was really peel and stick tiles that looked like slate!! Can't wait to see pictures. K.

This is the best idea I've seen all month! How will you apply them to the wall--construction adhesive like Liquid Nails?

Kelli, that's great to hear about the red cabinets looking nice - I hope mine turn out ok! I've started some work and and they're looking great so far!

Hi, Meredith! I'm not sure yet how the pavers will need to be applied. Hmmm...I'll have to do some research, that's for sure! I'll be sure to post what I find out - good question!

I love your look! I've had z-brick on my kitchen back splash for years and it has me stopped like a clock. I have cherry cupboards and they go well with them but my counter top is white and I'm painting the kitchen a soft green and the red bricks look a little too hard. I love the glazing idea. Where did you purchase it and who makes it? Great job!

Buena- I want to paint my kitchen green- have many samples of color on wall. What color are you using? I am having a tough time deciding on the green- I have a small kitchen and want a nice light green. Thanks!

I am also looking for a pavers but I don't know what style I really want. I am thinking on either classic or modern style or a combination of it. Contrast right? but I really want either of the two, it just that I don't know where to buy which price is cheap.
