1955 Good Housekeeping Cookbook
Do not walk, RUN to Ebay and snatch up a copy of this vintage cookbook from 1955, the Good Housekeeping Cookbook ! I found one at Goodwill yesterday and WOW, what a gem! There are over 3000 recipes in the book (760 pages!), from old-fashioned dishes to the "newer" dishes of the 1950's. There are plenty of practical kitchen tips as well. This is a great one to add to your cookbook collection. Vintage and antique cookbooks are so charming...through them, you can take a step back in time to the kitchens of your mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and beyond.
As of this posting you can get this book for as little as 1.99! Check it out! And let me know if you order one! I know you'll love it as I do mine!

Hi, Kim~
That's amazing that you found that at Goodwill! It sounds like a really neat cookbook. Just about everything from that era (the 40's and the 50's) just seems more special!
This past Christmas, we gave our youngest daughter the Better Homes and Gardens cookbook for kids, created with the exact same style and picture as the original 1950's copy. A couple of weeks ago I saw an original one at a favorite antique store! I almost snapped it up for my own collection...maybe I still will!
I hope you have a wonderful day! :)
Oh my goodness I have that cookbook. I think I picked mine up at the church rummage sale. Try the pumpkin/squash pie recipe on page 415 and you will never make a different one.
I love old cookbooks and have some myself. I think I will peruse Ebay and see what I can find. The food just seems more..."special".
Enjoy your day!
Congratulations on a great find! I love vintage cookbooks. I have the original Betty Crocker Cooky Book from 1963 and the 1960 Better Homes & Gardens Dessert Cook Book. You just can't beat the charm of those vintage books!
Claire
I have been visiting for a while and I am amazed at the transformation of your house. It is wonderful. I loved the rainy day poem. I tell my BFF when we walk how I would just love a rainy day. One where it is raining when you get out of bed and raining when you go to bed. That slow gentle kind of rain. We had a sprinkle today, and we are thankful that we have been getting a few sudden downpours, but we are still lacking. I will be back to visit.
Thank you, Jenni! I hope the cookbook is still there for you!
Hip Chick - how neat! Isn't it wonderful! I'll have a looksee at that recipe...thanks!
You are right, Rechelle, there is something about old cookbooks - I can't resist them!
Claire, I want the Betty Crocker Cooky book - I've been eying it on Amazon and Ebay for a while now, hehe!
Thank you for visiting and introducing yourself, Empty Nest! We could stand more rain, here, too. We finally got some last week, but not nearly enough, in my opinion. Hope you get more soon!
Oh! I love that cookbook. Somehow I ended up with it 15 years ago or so, now I grab them whenever I can and give them as gifts!!
