Dark Brown Spray Paint Recommendations?
C an anyone recommend a dark brown satin or semi-gloss spray paint? It's such a deep brown, it almost looks black. I've seen sprays that are called "Expresso", but the cap looks like a medium brown and not dark brown. I've posted a photo above of the shade I'm looking for. I'm thinking about repainting my dining room chairs in this shade in the future. Any ideas? Thanks!

I recently used the Expresso on some wicker chairs and table and loved it. It turned out a very dark brown. I just posted a picture couple days ago if you wanted to check it out.
I used the Espresso from Valspar in a satin finish on my son's desk and it's a dark brown, darker than the cap. I wouldn't say it looks almost black, but it is a dark color. I love it!
I've used the medium brown and then added a dark/black brown glaze to furniture....turned out well. But it IS an extra step ;)
Krylon's Oil Rubbed Bronze is that color, but with a bit of a metallic look. You could use a lighter shade and then rub an ebony stain over to age/darken the color.
I like the Valspar Velvet Brown. It definitely looks darker than thet cap.
I used it on the frame I painted in this post:

Good luck with your chairs. I can't wait to see them!
I used Rust-Oleum American Accents in Expresso on a few picture frames and it's a really nice dark brown.
You can see the color in this post, but they are darker in person.

I've used Espresso here http://love-2-create.blogspot.com/2009/08/girl-power.html and here http://love-2-create.blogspot.com/2009/07/patio-table.html. I agree with La, it is darker than the cap.
I used espresso for some ceiling fixtures and it turned a nice dark brown. Darker than the cap.
Kim, I'd like to know the answer to that as well. I used some Espresso spray paint in Rustoleum brand I believe this week. I painted the wicker chair on my front porch. It's shown in my recent blog post. It's a dark brown. I'm happy, but I would love to have a spray paint in such a dark brown it appears almost black. I do know that Sherwin Williams makes a brush on paint that you might be able to use in a paint sprayer called Black Bean that is exactly what I think you are describing. If all else fails, you could get a sample jug to go in it and if it fits the bill, then rent or purchase a paint sprayer. I have one and they work beautifully plus they open up the paint color choices for spray paint jobs. Good luck. Is that the chair you will be painting or just the inspiration pic?
Thanks, ladies! You've given me some great pointers and I loved seeing the photos of your projects painted in the such yummy shades of brown. Love it! Country Lady, that's a great idea about renting a sprayer, too. The photo is just an inspiration photo, but I do wish I had some chairs like that!
I'm clueless--but wanted to say I loved that you share your "hump". I think I would end up in a divorce if the hubs and I ever tried to tackle such a feat!! Have a great week and I'm glad you're back!
I agree with Ikjatl - my new favorite color is Krylon's oil rubbed bronze. It's a beautiful dark brown with bronze flecks. (Here's a link which shows a project I used it for in several different lighting: http://thediyshowoff.blogspot.com/2009/08/vintage-inspired-elephant-toy-decor.html). I've also used a quick light spray of black on top to darken the color even more.

Its So Very Cheri
Don't rent a sprayer... I bought mine for $60 @ Home Depot & I wouldn't give it up for a couple hundred. It'll pay for itself in spray paint alone very quickly & it's fabulous for furniture projects. MAJOR timesaver! And you can get a flawless finish on furniture hardware w/out having to remove it. *thumbs up*
Thnaks for hosting & welcome back Kim!
Krylon Saddle Leather is a really dark brown--I used it on a little buffet thingy and loved it!
have you spray painted wood chairs before. i really want to paint my chairs a dark color and didn't think i could use spray paint. would love to hear what you end up doing.
I know this comment is very late, but I saw that chair and had to see this post!
I recently used, *Sigh*, Camoflauge brown paint, found in the spray paint section by walmart. Don't be fooled by the 'redneck in a can' this is a dark solid brown, and it sprays on better than any paint I have ever tried. And being completely flat- (no gloss what so ever) it is easy to distress and buff a wax sealer onto. I used it on a chair, and it came out beautiful!
