Photos of Our Cottage Kitchen New Hardwood Flooring
I can hardly believe the turn out for this week's Make Your Monday event! You all have been super busy with your creative selves, haven't you?! Thank you so much for adding your link! I will be sharing with you the projects that caught my eye a little later this week because today I'd like to show you photos {and pinch me as I know I must be dreaming} of our completed hardwood flooring in the kitchen.
Last week I shared with you some photos of the kitchen floor "surgery" we had to perform recently in order to prepare for the laying of the hardwood, along with some additional history about our kitchen. In short, I've been waiting for this flooring for a looooooong time. It has been a slow, labor intensive journey getting to this point with our kitchen. It has been a slow, labor intensive journey getting to this point with our kitchen. We've been working on it little by little for over three years now, but when you're on a budget, slow progress is better than none at all, right? We still have to tackle the trim work, install/paint beadboard, and work on a few other small projects I've been dreaming about for a while, but I feel like the hardest parts of the kitchen remodel are behind us. We've knocked out walls to install windows and french doors, installed a new plank ceiling and lighting, added trim to and then painted our standard honey oak cabinets, installed a new countertop, backsplash, and faucet, replaced the appliances, and finally over the course of the last two weekends, laid the hardwood flooring. {I literally got down on my hands and knees and kissed it when it was completed.}Thanks again to my mom who helped get us going with this project while she was here:)
So this is where we began a couple of weeks ago...This was a little scary. I was hoping our measurements were correct so that we would have nice, straight flooring. Getting the first row right was very important! I had visions of us getting halfway finished and having to rip everything out to start over due to mathematical errors! But thankfully, that didn't happen. We, do, though, have the rest of the house to go, so I'll be on pins and needles with each room, I'm sure!
We used Bruce 3/4" oak in the Marsh finish. {We're told it's the same as Gunstock, more or less.} Part of me really wanted dark wood flooring, but having two dogs and three kids, I knew I needed something that would hide dirt and hair well without me having to sweep myself silly.
It adds the warmth I've been longing for for so long...
Not to mention the shine is amazing! There is just something about living with subflooring for years that will make you appreciate a good old fashioned shiny floor when you finally get it!
I'm looking forward to seeing how the kitchen flooring will look against white doors, trim, and beadboard. The bare wood door and trimwork you see in the photos will all be painted white.
I'd like to paint my chairs a dark, rich brown that almost looks black, but not quite...
...Like the color of the frame around this floral art.
This is where it all began...
We aren't finished with the kitchen yet, but this project was definitely a major, long awaited milestone!

Your floors are just lovely! They definitely add so much warmth and beauty to your space!
Marvelous...simply marvelous. I want wood floors so badly (we have 80's berber carpet in the eating area and blah yellowish vinyl in the kitchen) that I'm simply drooling.
You mentioned painting your ladderbacks deep brown. Check out my linky on your Make your Monday post...I did a faux black 'stain' on my wood and it turned out deeeeeeep brown with the wood grain showing thru. Kinda cool how fiddling around with no real idea what you're doing can end up looking great :)
Oh how yummy the color is! Almost like warm honey! You'll sooo love the wood floors. Just keep them clean every day.
Can I come over for coffee soon?
~Olivia
Oh they're gorgeous! What a shine!
LOVE it... It's all so beautiful! So much fun to look at... Have you considered using latex paint rather than spray paint on your chairs??
~Whitney
Looks really nice!
LOVE LOVE LOVE it!
You're making me very anxious to start re-finishing our hardwood flooring!!!
Also, you have the prettiest blog in blogland- did you know that?
:-)

Wow. wow. wow!!!
It is GORGEOUS! I know you are so happy to have it finished. We installed the same color (it was called gunstock at the time) and have loved it. It hides all the dirt and forgives the scratches of 3 kids and a large dog. It has stayed beautiful for almost 8 years.
Your kitchen is one of my all-time favorite makeovers.
Enjoy... you deserve it!
Your kitchen is definitely one for a magazine. It's beautiful, and I LOVE hardwood floors. Excellent and elegant!
I DO love your kitchen! Wish I could come over and have a little coffee with ya!
Great job on the floors!

Your floors look great, Kim! I love wood floors. I also love your island.
Oh my! it IS awseome!!!
can't beleive I missed the party. the only days I wasn't home and you come back! ahah
that kitchen is trully becoming my favorite ever. meals must be delicious!
Stunning!! Your kitchen is magazine worthy for certain. There's something special about doing projects yourself. I think it makes us appreciate what we accomplish and have so much more. You and your husband deserve a round of applause at where you've taken this kitchen. It's spectacular!!
What a project! But well worth it! Your kitchen looks spectacular!
PS I'm in love with your island!
Gorgeous!!!
The floors look gorgeous! Do you just stop and stare at them or what? Three years of waiting. Wow. This is quite a leap forward in getting that kitchen completed once and for all! Again, looks fantastic. Great job!!
I am drooling over your gorgeous kitchen! I'm in Nashville, so I know all about this rain you speak of. Very dreary! I love love love what you've done. I frequently show your red cabinets to my friends. When the hubby and I actually buy a house, I want to take your example and launch a massive remodeling campaign. I think the hubby and I can reach compromise that way. I want a cottage; he wants newer construction with less problems. With your inspiration, I think we can meet in the middle. ;) Thanks!
Absolutely wonderful! BTW, love that table skirt in your kitchen!
Oh my gosh!! It looks simply amazing! I adore your kitchen and I am not a red person at all.... but it is simply fabulous and the floors wow! We did our living room in hardwood this year... it was the only one downstairs that had carpet. I am so happy we did! We live in Spring Hill and I am pretty sick of the rain. I am afraid it will ruin my flea market plans!!
SMiles!

Your floors are beautiful!
What a transformation! It looks fantastic!
We put down a Bruce floor in our kitchen and dining room eight years ago... a veneer though, not solid... and it's held up beautifully. Still has that great shine. It dents and scratches just like any wood flooring does but that just adds to its character! We've lived on it pretty hard, like any average family, but it looks so good and I think I've finally convinced my husband that we should do the whole house.
I like your idea to make your chairs dark to bring in some of what you thought you wanted on the floor.
Again, great job! Just what your pretty red kitchen needed!
Your kitchen is delicious! I absolutely love the wood floor!!
Your kitchen is so warm and inviting:) It's like you can just smell the homemade apple pie! I love the cabinets and I LOVE the floors! They are so rich and beautiful:)
Absolutely inspirational. Keep taking your time, you'll have a masterpiece of a home at the end.
Spectacular! We have the same color wood floors in our home... they flow with the white furniture, dark furniture, everything! Couldn't you just sit in that kitchen forever?
wow, the floors are gorgeous! everything is looking beautiful.
nice job!
Wow! Those look absolutely gorgeous! You must be so happy to be walking on that lovely wood. You have waited a long time for this Kim, you are a constant inspiration to me. It's no wonder you are my very favorite blog. We have just downsized from a large 2,800 square foot home to a 1000 sq. ft. townhouse. The place needs some work and updating, so I will be using your blog as a constant source. And I think I might blog about my work too. I too want to achieve a white, crisp and beachy feel, even in this small space.
I live in a rental and would love to tear out the white ceramic tile and replace it with wood laminate.
Your project makes me want it even more now. Everything looks fantastic.
The floors look fabulous! All that hard work is definitely paying off!

Very nice! Your kitchen has always been beautiful, but the flooring is just icing on the cake. Love it! We are going to be putting some white pine planks in our house in a few months, and I can't wait!! I'll be so glad to be rid of our dirty torn up carpet.
It looks absolutely fabulous, really. Such a warm, cozy room & so full of great ideas!
Your flooring looks AMAZING!! BTW, love the tin ceiling magnet board you've created on your island...at least that what it looks like to me. LOL!
Smiles,
Rachel
I never tire of lookin at your kitchen...it is one of my all time faves! cherry

Absolutely beautiful!! What a great feeling you must have to be this far along in the process.
Thank you all so much! I'm honored that some are using our kitchen as your inspiration - I'm so flattered! All you need is Goodwill and lots and lots of time, hehe! We're on year three and not finished yet!
Your kitchen looks amazing! The wood floors really complete the room, and I absolutely love all the little details, especially the white dishes, red apples, and the chalkboard!
I wanted to let you know that I've chosen you to pass along an award, you're really not obligated to do the surrunding stuff.
