Crown Moulding Work Begins in Dining / Kitchen Area

Boy, I didn't think we'd ever see the day that we'd begin installing crown moulding in this house, but today was the day. We had a little money, bought a little trim, and used a little time early this morning to install it. We still have over half the dining and kitchen yet to do, but we'll have to wait for a little more of all of the above to do that:) For now, I'm thrilled that we've inched our way a bit closer to completion!

We used some decorative corner pieces that served two purposes: 1) They added some architectural detail that this 30 year old house is sorely lacking and 2) They made installing crown moulding super easy! No mitered cuts!

The trim, ceiling, and beams will be painted out in a glossy creamy white. And can you picture creamy white beadboard four feet up the wall? We haven't installed our lighting yet, but when we do, this mock up photo gives me an idea of what it will look like. I'm going for just enough country and just enough cottage. The shades are linen and the finish is in oil-rubbed bronze.

(Oh, for those of you who may be new to this site, here is a photo of what our dining / kitchen ceiling once looked like... We just covered over the hideous mess with the pine planks. Easy Peasy!)

This is EXACTLY what I want to do with our awful popcorn ceilings! Thank you for sharing your remodel... now my boyfriend can actually see what I am talking about (and is much more enthusiastic about my idea). BTW, what color did you paint your kitchen- such a pretty shade of pear.

I SO love how this turned out. It's really outstanding the changes you guys have made and how big of an impact they are having on the home. I'm not sure I would have the foresight to see what could be done with a simple popcorn ceiling to turn it into the beauty that you have now! :)Great job!

I check out your website every now and then to see how your house is coming along. You do so many things that I want to do to my house, too! I'm also wondering what color you used in the dining room. I'm going through a green phase and I love the color! Or at least, I love the color that it looks on my computer. :)

The moulding is great! I'd never seen those corner pieces before, but that would make it so easy! It looks wonderful.

Wow Kim, you two have been so busy!
I didn't hear any cussing so I had no idea you were doing crown molding. But now I see you have the corner blocks. We are converts to using those. We never used them until we tried them out in the bedroom and they sure made it easier.

Your dining room is going to be just a spectacular looking as your kitchen. Love your choices of colors and decorating.

Now I'm off to see what your stores look like.

Hey Kim...things look lovely! And I absolutely LOVE your idea of covering your ceiling with pine planks. They look aamzing. What a great concept. I'm thinking maybe later on we may do that in some of our rooms to hide some ugly ceilings.

And I'm so excited by your upcoming online store. That's awesome. Love the intro page graphic...so YOU! :)

Your ceiling looks so fantastic. I, too, live in a house that had no arch. interest at all and I crave it! Our house is an early 50's ranch where the work NEVER ceases. Hubby and I are senior citizens and last yr., he and I doubled the size of our livingroom, by ourselves. Oh, I have stories to tell about it, too! lol

I hope your health issues are being taken care of, that's a big concern always.
I love the ceilings I would love to do it here, but how high are your ceilings?
I may just scrape off my cottage cheese ceiling and smooth it out and do crown moulding around the room, and install beadboad but staggered.
As well I love all the improvements you have made to your home, beautiful.
