Fun with ( Faux ) Cake + More Blue Inspiration
Back in May, I finally got up the nerve to try my hand at making my first "faux" cake. I will at some point (when things settle down around here a bit) take cake decorating classes and honestly, I didn't plan on trying a cake until after I had several classes under my belt. But I got the itch and decided to give it a go.
So here are the results. Though it's far from perfect, I'm really, really pleased with how my first attempt turned out. I'm sorry that I can't give out the secret fake cake recipe, but I hope you enjoy looking at the photos:) I keep this cake on a plate stand in my kitchen.
I couldn't resist also making some coordinating yummies like baby cupcakes and some fancy cookies...
I'm going to love coming up with new designs and creations...it's so much fun making these inedible treats!
Here are a few more "bleu" inspiration photos that I've had on file for a while. Don't you just love this color?!
I love the idea of covering books with colorful paper and writing or painting words on the spine...
Doesn't red look pretty with this shade of blue?
Do you see the old blue bench in the background? Fabulous!
And more beautiful blue...

The faux cakes are gorgeous! I'm afraid I'd stay hungry all the time if I had that sitting in my kitchen, though. ;-)
I dearly love that blue chair with the stack of books. What a great idea!
I would never have thought of pairing red with blue, but those beds and pillows look fantastic.
I love the pictures you share! :-)
Wow Kim! The Cake is Gorgeous! You should try selling your gorgeous faux creations to a bakery for display...
Anyway, The bench you pointed out is so sweet! I've eyed one that is identical several times online at
cottage chic's photo gallery: http://www.cottagechicstore.com/PhotoGalary1.ivnu
and also at Layla Grayce: http://laylagrayce.com/searchresulthome.aspx?CategoryID=211

Your cake turned out beautifully! Which icing tip did you use for the overall white piped icing? It looks so fluffy and decadent! :) Those roses are too perfect considering you've never taken a class! Wonderful work!
Your cakes and other goodies look scrumptous!!! I love the heighth of the cake and all the fancy work! Beautiful job!!!
Your roses are SO beautiful! Great job on the cake. I'm very impressed that this is your first try!
Those faux goodies are making my mouth water. Mmmm! Delectable.
The blue pictures are beautiful - but it's hard to go wrong with blue in my book. It's my "bestest", most favourite colour!
If you are a novice cake decorator, then I cannot even imagine what you will do after some classes! Those cakes are absolutely gorgeous. I just don't know how you get all this done with three children too!
Your cake turned out great! I love the other little treats you made as well. The blue pictures were nice-very inspiring!
Yes, I know they're fake but I can still feel my fat cells expanding ;)
Really, Kim, you are a very talented woman.
WOW!!! I'm pretty darn impressed with those cakes!!! You did a great job on them, and I can't wait to see what you come up with AFTER your lessons!!
That bench is awesome, and I also love the chairs at the kitchen table!!

I think you did a fantastic job on the faux cake. You definitely have a special knack for it if you haven't even taken any classes.
Those blue pictures are so inspiring. I am so into blue lately.

Hey Kim ~ Sorry I haven't commented in awhile. Life has been more hectic than usual, but I *think* its settling down for a lil while.
Saw your online yard sale, thought that was a kewl idea. =)
