Studio Work Begins!
We started on my studio last weekend, and boy, what a lot of work! I'll be sure to post photos when there is something interesting to photograph:) For now, we've mainly been working on patching the walls and insulating the parts of the ceiling that weren't completely insulated. Work continues this weekend:) There were once sky lights in the studio room...and now there are just plywood "patches" that are quite the eyesores! We removed the skylights when we added a new roof a few years back and have been waiting to deal with the interior holes when we redo the ceiling. We're not ready for that, so I've had to come up with a creative way to make those square patches look like they belong. I finally decided that I would (try to) paint a pretty cloudy sky mural within each of the four squares and trim it out in a nice crisp white moulding. Hopefully the effect will realistic - we shall see! I hope to tackle that soon (this weekend or next) so I'll be sure to post some before and afters! I'm so anxious to have the studio finished because my materials and creations are taking over the rest of the house!
Hubs was also able to get around to mudding the seams of the new drywall in the hallway. Still lots of sanding, reapplying mud, sanding, etc., to go, but it looks sooo much better already! I can't believe we can walk down the hall now without seeing a single stud!
I've been experimenting with my faux creations and wanted to share one of them - a chocolate cupcake - with you...You can read more about it on my faux dessert blog if you like.
Thanks for dropping in! I hope everyone is doing well!

Your hard work really shows! I can't believe you have already started on your studio! That is so cool! I painted clouds in my boys room 5 years ago and loved how it looked. It took some guts to sponge on the first cloud, but after that It was a 'breeze'. If you keep it soft and airy I'm sure it will look great! I've since painted their disastrous bedroom, but miss the clouds!
SO glad to see your post. I can't wait to see photos of the studio, and glad to hear the hallway is coming along nicely too. Your cupcake is the most precious little thing I've ever seen. It's going to be so nice for you to be able to spread out and CREATE in your new space. I'm having a GIVEAWAY over at my blog if you'd like to check it out!

I love the frilly cupcake paper you used. Wherever did you find them?
The cupcake is beautiful!
How wonderful... a studio... Love your faux cupcake.... I just posted a give-a-way today. Maybe you would like to stop over.
Renovations are a chore as you well know. But doing a studio is fun. We did a small re-do on my sewing studio this summer and I love it. I used the fabric I bought in your yard sale for several projects and it looks fabulous in my space. Have fun!
Thanks, ladies! And thanks for letting me know about your fabulous giveaways! Yay!
Patty, I made the wrappers..they are a combination of regular cupcake wrappers and crepe paper. I call them CupCrepes!
Chris, I would love to see photos of what you did with the fabric...I'm SO glad someone could use it - someone that is such a pro at sewing at that! In my upcoming sale, I will have some more fabric as well:)
Yeah! It is an AWESOME choice! Yesterday, I just about ordered a fabric by Waverly in those colors for my sofa, (but ended up going all white-EEK), It will be sooo pretty!
Love all the work you are doing in your future studio. That cupcake is totally darling, especially the pink polka dot paper holder. By the way, I've tagged you on my blog!
