You Know Renovating Is a Way of Life When...
You go to give your child a final tuck in for the night and find nestled between their blankets, pillows, and stuffed animals, a 4'X 6" piece of drywall. Do I dare ask her why? :) I guess coming from a family that has plugged their tub drain with a small, squishy plastic frog for the last 4 or 5 years, this is totally normal behavior for a child.
Um, right?

Omgosh, that is to funny! Perhaps that piece of drywall is one of her "lovies".
hilarious. Maybe the drywall says love to her!
I have been following your blog for awhile now. I too have an old farmhouse in Maine that we have been fixing up since 1987.. no it's not even close to being finished. My husband insists on doing all, and I mean, all the work himself. Only problem is he's away a lot. So I've been trying to do some things myself. I try to find ways to reuse old items around here and put them to a new purpose. My ceiling on my porch is old tin roofing, but a coat of hammered copper spray paint it looks like a new ceiling and very unusual. good luck in your adventure and it will always be an adventure... I remember finding dry wall, screws, and other building supplies all over our home. Great work so far...Tracey
Well, for pete's sake ask why the board and pets were in there and let us know, sweet chickee!! I'm dying to know now.
Smooches,
Connie
Hey Kim ~ That is too funny! I can totally relate tho when we were remodeling our home back in Louisiana. The reality of "normal" certainly changes when you are remodeling {or building for that matter}. =)
Hi Kim. Loved your post, and can totally relate. I'm married to a contractor and we bought an older house and have been fixing it up for 20 years. You know what they say about the shoemaker's kids having no shoes. Well, my house is always the last to get done. When my son was younger, he didn't know what people were talking about when said "windowsill" because we didn't have any. A picture he drew of our house, had a window with a horse in it. We asked what it was, and he said "our curtain", which was an old blanket. And my favorite is the old toy that had a beak and was just the right size to twist our dishwasher on. We used it for years until we got a new dishwasher. I still have that toy to remind me of happy, simple times. Thanks for the memories. Mona
I am laughing right now! I have never heard of a piece of "security drywall". Maybe you should cut a little off every day until it's a tiny square (you know like kids with a security blanket).
Sounds perfectly normal, well to *me* anyway. Then again, we are currently living in the house that we are trying to build around ourselves. "Do I really need to explain to you again why sleeping with a hammer is a bad idea?!?"
Hahahahahaha! I love that. You've got a DIYer in training. :-)
