New Farmhouse / Cottage Style Door and Trim

nother weekend has come and gone and though I don't have a makeover or crafty project to share, I do want to share with you a photo of the studio door and door trim hubs installed Saturday. It was late Sunday when I took this photo and I apologize that it's so dark and grainy {there is *stuff* in my camera lens and whatever it is, it's showing up in my photos -ugh!}Anyway, though I didn't create anything this weekend, I think hubs did a really nice job creating that cottage farmhouse style I love with our new door and door trim.

This is the kitchen side of the door - the studio is on the other side. As I mentioned in my last entry, the single french door that was here before was pretty, but not very energy efficient as my studio stays quite cold in the winter and warm in the summer. It's not unbearable - nothing that the ceiling fan or a space heater won't fix, but adding a nice solid door just makes more sense. See how beefy it looks now? I don't know why, but I'm itching to paint it red but I'm wondering if I should just keep it white to match the trim and ceiling {and future beadboard and baseboards}?

Right beside it, you'll see a peek of the trim also around our double french doors. But only a peek because I didn't want our unsightly deck that needs sanding and staining and the old shed that is missing it's door to be in the shot. We also installed the same trim to another exterior door in the dining area. Again, dying to paint all three doors red. Hmm...Decisions, decisions!

This little corner of our kitchen has come a long way since we moved in. Below is a realtors photo taken before we bought the place.

We still have a ways to go in the kitchen as our time and budget allows {flooring, baseboards, beadboard, but first removing/sanding down a weird "hump" in the middle of the floor where the "new" kitchen, added in the early 90's, met the old part of the house...}, but I guess this is where patience is called for, right?

I hope you all had a great weekend! If you get a chance, starting on Friday, August 21, I'll be having a blog sale to find new homes for some of my decorative items I no longer have room for, so feel free to stop in!

I'm adding this entry to the weekly Make Your Monday,Metamorphosis Monday, DIY Day, and Hooked on Fridays events and I hope you enjoy perusing all the other inspiring and creative projects that have been added!

The door and trim are wonderful. I love that style of door. I think I would paint it white, but I really love our red cabinets. I can't wait to see what you do. Hugs, Marty

I say paint the door red and leave the trim white like everything else. Could be a fun look. :))

I think that red doors would work only if they matched the colour and finish of the cabinets. Otherwise, two competing reds would look off. But I could be wrong...

The doors look great!

Kim, I love the addition of the door and trim. It does justice to your farmhouse style. The grain and knots of the wood is fantastic. Is it pine wood? What finish are you going with on this trim and door since it has this gorgeous grain and knots? If you do decide to paint it all, I'm sure you know that you must use a good grade Oil Base primer that won't allow the knots to bleed through because you'll be fighting that bleed through forever if it isn't completely sealed with an oil base primer specifically designed for this type of issue. I'll be eagerly watching what you do with your new door and trim. Your kitchen is fantastic.

What color will it be? i love it. I've been asking hubby for an outdoor door or 2 years now... he can't figure out the door frame... but he did just finish an outdoor shower! I won't complain.

Hi Kim~
Your hubby does such a beautiful job when working with wood. I can see it red or white and either work be beautiful.
I think I like white a bit better because your cabinets are so outstanding, and a red door might compete with them for attention. But since you love red, you would make it work! Donna

Thanks, everyone! I know for sure that the trim will remain white - it's just the doors that I'm wondering if I should paint white or red. Hmmm....

Hi Kim,
I just found your blog and oh my. Oh my, do I love the way your blog looks. It sings to me! And when I saw your studio - well I know it's wrong to envy, but there it is. You have such a great space for a studio. I am going to see if I can do that in my room. Maybe your blog is so "me", because I am "Kim" too. Great photos.
