Bedroom Flooring Installation Begins or "Ruby the Handy Doxie"

Yesterday, hubs and I began laying hardwood in our bedroom. For longer than I care to admit, our flooring has been, well - just what you see above...raw subflooring! You see, one day while hubs and I were emptying the room to do some spring cleaning, I decided that I hated the old carpet and that it just had to go. And so it went. As ugly as the subflooring is, to me - it is preferable over outdated, stinky old carpet any day.

But, of course, shiny new hardwood is preferable over raw subflooring {which is not only ugly but also produces enough splinters to build Noah's ark seven times over}. So I was thrilled today to finally begin the process of moving up to a more civilized, proper floor. You know - a real floor.

There were a few carpet staples left that needed to be removed first - and Ruby helped with that. I hope word doesn't get out about just how handy she is or everyone will be wanting her to help with their projects, too!

All that staple pulling really wore her out, though. She promptly retreated to her favorite napping spot on the sofa when we were finished. This is her way of saying Do Not Disturb {Unless You Want to Give Me Kisses}.

Today we'll be working on finishing the rest of the room....wonder if Ruby will be just as helpful as she was yesterday?

Photos of our new bedroom floor will follow this coming up week, along with some more beautiful inspiration photos that have really influenced the direction I've decided to take with our cottage transformation. I'm looking forward to sharing them with you!

I know your floor will be beautiful. Aren't Doxies the best? Mine can do a lot, but when I stripped my wood floors and stained them I didn't get a bit of help! She doesn't do sticky work.. She does do all her napping and sleeping all covered also. Some time we have to check to see if the covers are moving to be able to find her.

Oh...I love your helper! Every family should have one that gets to supervise and then be swaddled at the end of the day.

I know that you are excited, it will be beautiful, but lots of work too. I wish you luck, we did our whole house between Thanksgiving and New Years in 2008 and I am still recovering. Can't wait to see what you do with this room. Have a great weekend.

I know you've been waiting for a while for your bedroom floors and I'm happy they are becoming a reality! Looking forward to reading your plans for your cottage and seeing those inspirational photos. Hope you enjoyed yourself at the Blissdom get together and that you tell us about it and who you met!

ruby reminds me of our the doxies we had: Bud & Sis -- they were always right in the middle of any project, but it wasn't long until they would succumb to napping all rolled up! lol.

flooring is hard work, but great results!!

You are the sweetest!!! I think it is so funny that you went home to install hard wood flooring. And it was so great to meet you.

Ruby is a lovely dog... but she does not seem to be a big helper.
