In my continued research on European country style, I have been so fortunate to discover a beautiful treasure in a Swedish blog called Vita Ranunkler {Vita means "White" and Ranunkler, I believe, is a type of flower or plant.} Marie, the author of this inspiring blog, has generously given permission to share with you some of the most romantic vignettes of her home that I've ever come across on the web. In my opinion, she is the queen of creating lovely, natural, and timeless looking {not contrived} vignettes, which isn't always easy to do!

As you know, I'm trying to carefully piece together a "style" for Twice Remembered, and from all that I've seen so far, I know definitely that I want our home to have a sense of nostalgic romance... as if you've taken a step back into another time. I want to balance this with my love of red and dark brown {almost black}. In order to do this, I plan to use a lot of white and neutral colors, a few wooden elements, as

well as metallic finishes like antique silver and antique gold. So I know many of you may have been thinking all white, Kim? Or Are you going to paint your cabinets, Kim? But the answers are no and no. I adore my red cabinets and really, they are the jumping off point for the rest of the house. The lighter colors - the whites and neutrals - will really play them up while providing a calm, versatile backdrop.

Using Marie's beautiful vignettes as inspiration, here are few things I'm going to keep an eye out for as I try to create a similar look and feel at Twice Remembered...

Old wooden boxes or small wooden drawers...


Porcelain cutting boards, though I've never seen these around here. I've only seen them on international blogs...hmmm.


Old beveled or etched mirrors, clothespins, and vintage laces...


Crocheted throws and blankets...


A mix of silver and gold...{I love both too much to choose one!}


Old bird cages and suitcases...


Some old fashioned spectacles!


Wooden crates with dividers, antique photographs, and silverware...


Bottles, metal baskets, and old books...


Dark stained or painted mirrors and cloches...


Lots of white dishes...


Tarnished pieces...


Old, raw wood furniture and twine...


Watch faces...


Antique letters and stencils...


Unique hanging light fixtures...


A plate display...


Eucalyptus wreaths...


An attractive way to hide the television...


Itty, bitty adorable pitchers...


French linen {I don't think this is what it's really called, but that's what I call it}...


Vintage clocks and fresh flowers...


Pegged shelf with hanging mirror collection...


Chicken wire...


More fresh flowers but in unexpected containers...


Linen napkins and ironstone...


And the little things like buttons and a bit of lace trim...
