A Twice Remembered First

Did you know that in all my years of homemaking and cookie baking, I've never owned one of these practical kitchen accessories? A good old fashioned cookie jar! I found this gem on clearance for $7 at my local Wal-Mart. I love the large, oversized pull at the top.

I also like the fact that the lid is black. It goes well with some of the other dark accessories in my kitchen. {Have you ever heard it said that every home should have a touch of black? I believe this!}

So now I'm going to be making a lot more these...

...to keep this filled! Isn't there something so homey about a full cookie jar waiting for the children when they return from school, or for a husband who wants a late night snack...or for you just because?

Do you have a cookie jar? I would love to hear about it!

I have the same cookie jar. Sadly, I didn't get mine on clearance! I love having homemade cookies on the counter for my boys.

I don't have a cookie jar and never did. Yours is very practical, I like that. We are Empty Nesters so all the cookies I make get put directly in plastic containers to go to college!

Okay, I am about to admit something SO embarrassing here: I've never known that a cookie jar was actually for holding cookies! I thought it was to hold flour or sugar--y'know, the stuff that MAKES cookies! (blush) Of course, this now totally make sense and also informs me of how to keep our cookies nice and fresh after making them!

I have a few cookie jars. One was my grandmother's but that one I do not keep cookies in because I do not want certain hands getting into it and risking breakage. The others I purchased at second hand stores. One is for human cookies and the other two contain furbaby cookies!

I love the fact that you can see the cookies through your cookie jar. I have some old McCoy Pottery cookie jars, which are lovely and colorful, but you have to guess at what's inside. I like the idea of seeing them! Of course, then I would be even more tempted to eat one every time I walked into the kitchen. HA! Enjoy it!

I would love a glass cookie jar, but it would always be empty because everyone would see the cookies and devour them. My family could live on cookies if I'd let them. (So could I!)

Loving your cookie jar! This is so funny that you posted on this...I just bought a cookie jar for the first time in years at Pier One yesterday. They had the sweetest white, vintage looking jars for cookies, flour and sugar. I already know what I am doing with the sugar and flour, but had not thought of having a cookie jar. At only $7 on clearance I walked out smiling about the yummy cookies that will be in it on my counter...that is until all the kids discover it! lol

Have a great week!!

Victoria

You're making me hungry! I only have a holiday cookie jar (a penguin with a snow hat) since that's when I make my cookies. Perhaps I should make cookies more often during the year...

Kim,

That cookie jar is a great find. Very vintage looking. Homemade cookies usually don't last long enough to be stored. I guess I need to make bigger batches!

There was always this big ol' cookie jar at my dad's. Pumpkin orange clay with a brown interior. Lid was cork and got lost over his many moves, but he kept the jar for holding things. After he died, I took the jar home and it didn't do much for a while. Now, I keep it on the counter and it's stuffed with all the cooking implements that don't fit in my tiny RV kitchen drawers, like spatulas and the rolling pin.

I would love to have a cookie jar, but there are 7 of us cookie lovers in our house, and it would be impossible to keep it full. When I make cookies, I make several dozen, and they're all gone in a matter of hours. I would blow our entire month's grocery budget just trying to keep the cookie jar filled. But I love your jar, and those cookies look good!! :)

I have heard that a little black anchors a space! I happen to like every black piece I have put in my home!

Oh, and I have a deep love affair with cookies. No jar...but that is a great idea! Even store bought look good in it!

That is a cute cookie jar! I too have a touch of black (okay maybe a fair bit of black) in each of our rooms.

I bake double batches of cookies several times each week. My two growing boys gobble them up as fast as I make them (and guests too of course.) My grown nieces and nephews in our neighbourhood hint for containers full of cookies all the time. Even after I taught them how to bake! Keeping our house stocked is a challenge, but I do share sometimes. Much to my boys' dismay :)

My husband actually had a cookie jar before we got married and it has a special significance to both of us because it was a Christmas gift from the company we both worked for when we met. Also, it was specifically made for the employees so no one else has one outside of the company. =]

What a pretty jar! With the cookies it makes such a nice focal point. I think I might have one in the back of my closet, probably ceramic. I want to start baking more so I think I just might look for a glass one as well.

I very much enjoyed reading about all your cookie jars and baking stories {and lack of cookie jars and no baking stories!} I don't know why it took me so long to get one...I always just store them in ziploc bags, lol!

Amber, you are too cute! Don't worry... I once thought that Anita Stockman {I need a stockman} was just a common name for employees of supermarkets. I heard it all the time over the loudspeaker, afterall!

Victoria, what a great deal you got at Pier 1...I haven't been there in so long!

Ashley, yes, those are butterscotch cookies. {Or they WERE!}

Lol, so funny, All My Yesterdays, about your "coolie jay"! That made me smile!

Thank you dear sister Casa Bella! If I go too long without baking, the kids remind me!

Thanks again, everyone, for telling me about your cookie jars:)

Do you know, I have owned several, but sold them, and have never, ever used one. My family didn't, either, growing up. Cookies stayed in the packages they came in, in the cabinet. And when we baked (rarely), they were never around long enough to need to be put in a jar! I think I need a cookie jar!
