Painted Floor Options
As we were discussing in the comments of my last post about my diamond floor pattern, the taping configuration I've used will produce diamonds that won't be touching each other at the corners...at least not the green diamonds I'll be painting. I didn't plan it that way and I'd really rather everything be just right - all corners touching. I briefly considered redoing the taping, but I reminded myself that this is just a temporary floor solution until we remodel their room and lay the hardwood down next year at some point. Retaping would just be taking time away from...painting those darn cabinet doors, which, btw, I got another coat on yesterday.
So, Bill from Enon Hall kindly did a mock up showing what my floors will look like when complete.
If I ever do this project again, I'll definitely tape in such a way that there are no gaps. Live and learn! But, for now, I can either leave the gaps or add a painted decorative touch where the gaps are. I'm thinking about painting in little flowers that coordinate with the girls' quilt and shams. This is a little busy for my taste, but then again, I'm not 5 and 6 years old:)
Big sister, who is 11 1/2, is getting really tired of the girls rooming with her, so now that I know exactly what I want to do, I better get started:) Happy Thursday!

For what it's worth, I like it just fine with the squares not touching.
I tried to post a comment yesterday.. but your comments don't seem to work in firefox.. odd.
Anyway.
Option 1: Leave tape as is: Green diamonds floating in white. Possibly augmented by red (or even several differnt colored) flowers.
Option 2: Paint in alternate colors. Ala: http://www.valsparatlowes.com/lowes/at/images/DGOL/DGOL_BR_66_z.jpg
Then you have 2 (or more) colored diamonds with a white border.
Option 3: Retape floor.
I don't think it looks too bad with the diamonds not touching, but I also think the little flowers would look awfully sweet and girly.
Very cute, Kim. I think the flowers between the green diamonds would be tres girlie! KimC
This is brilliant, Kim. You truly have a gift for beautiful simplicity. The little flowers are a sweet touch, but I like the diamonds with social anxiety disorder. :)
The flowers are a simply brilliant! And you planned it out so carefully to leave room for them between the green squares! :)
Adding the little red flowers is a brilliant idea! Way to make a boo boo look planned ;)

Hi everyone! I really appreciate all your thoughts and opinions about the floor! I have one coat of the green painted so far and I'm dying to get the second coat on so that I can start on those flowers. I'm not going to painting them, however. More on that later... *wink*
We're having several friends over for dinner tonight, so I've been rushing around like a mad woman trying to make this house presentable (kinda hard to do when you're remodeling, lol). But they're all use to it by now, thank goodness:)
You all have a lovely weekend!
