Bouquet of Cut Flowers (Decoupage for Cottage Style Floor)
I hinted in a comment on my last entry that I've come up with another way to add a floral design to the bedroom floor we're working on. While painted flowers would be lovely, I decided that it would be just as charming to decoupage them onto the floor. So I made laser photo copies of the flowers on the girls' quilt sham and cut them all out with precision scissors...all 54 of them! I love the detail in the flowers - you can even see the stitches! After I glue them into place and they're dry, I'll coat the flowers with several layers of clear polyeurothane for durabilty. I'll be working on that today because the diamond pattern on the floor is finished:)
Another shot of the quilt sham and 'bouquet of cut flowers'...
I'm off to arrange flowers now! Have a happy Monday, everyone!

What a creative way to add the flowers to your floor! That has be a time saver.
So lovely. I was wondering if you were going to use decoupage when you said you weren't painting the flowers. I bet the girls will love their room when it is done.
The floor looks great!
Was your subfloor plywood?
Hi everyone:) Sarah, going this route saved me *so* much time! An hour or so to cut out the flowers and less than an hour to glue them to the floor...then Voila! It's done!
Jordana, you guessed correctly! I have overnight guest coming in less than a month and this room *needs* to be finished by then...this saved me a lot of steps. The girls say the floor is "pretty":)
Thanks, Novaks8! Yes, the floor under all the paint and flowers is just ugly old plywood. I would suggest (if someone was doing this as more of permanent floor solution) to use a flexible, paintable wood caulk between the seams for a more polished look. :)
This painted subfloor idea intrigues me. Did you have to sand the plywood or fill in any gaps first? How "forgiving" is the porch paint? Love the color scheme, by the way!
Hi Pippajo,
I didn't fill in any gaps but I would recommend doing so for a more finished, smooth look. Just use flexible, paintable wood caulk in the seems.
No, I didn't have to sand anything though you can I'm sure. Just use a good floor enamel. I used oil-based gloss porch paint myself - three coats. Hope this helps!
Brilliant!
Kim,
The floor looks wonderful. I'm sure your girls will enjoy it. What a great idea for the flowers!
BTW, your finished cabinet looks wonderful.

Thanks, Christina! It took a little coaxing to get my daughter into the idea of actually ripping out the carpet, but it was for her own good. Now she loves the floor and is glad we did it:)
Oh so pretty
