Cottage Style Altered Art
Do you remember the sweet painting below that I bought at Goodwill last year? I liked it, I really did! But with my new found love of robin's egg blue, I just couldn't make the dark green and yellow background in the painting work for me. What to do?
With a little paint and a lot of nerve, I tackled the background myself. I also painted the frame a dark, chocolate brown.
I'm no artist but I know that it lacks the same depth, shadow, blending, and texture the original painting had, and I may continue tweaking in future...you know...as I save up a little more creative nerve:) For now, I'm just going to enjoy my new cottage style "altered art"!

It looks great! I think you could add a little of the robins egg blue in the back ground at the top. Kind of like a sky. Regardless of whether or not you do anything, it looks lovely.
What a clever idea. I have got rid of things before because they no longer matched my color scheme. It didn't occur to me to do something about it!
Great idea Kim. It looks really good. I really love your basket with red berries too.
This is a GREAT idea! I will never look at a thrift store painting the same way again!
You are so brave... and creative!
It looks great!
I just found your blog this week (where have I been) and have SO enjoyed browsing. What a warm and welcoming place!
I've been doing a series on paint this week and on Friday we are having a linky party. You have SO much to share (where do I begin?!) Please join the fun and share your keen eye for paint color.
I love your blog! I have added your blog to my crafty blog list so I can check in often. Stop by and say "hi" and add me to yours if you enjoy what you see! See you soon! Rita
Thanks, everyone! Songbirdtiff...it's hard to tell in the this photo, but the top part is robin's egg blue. It's very pale. Hopefully when I get it hung, I can get a better photo and it will show:)
Thanks for the invite, new every morning! I'll check it out!
Rita, thanks for letting me know about your blog! I'll be visiting!
Great idea. I love painting oils and watercolors, yet would have never considered doing this! Thanks for giving me a new perspective!
