A Few Cottage Finds at Goodwill

Have I ever shared a photo of our parakeet, Skyler? If not, here he is admiring himself in the mirror. Actually, he thinks that's another bird. He's constantly smooching on his reflection and I'm constantly cleaning Skyler slobber off the mirror:)

I haven't posted any Goodwill bargains in quite a while, so I thought I'd do that today. First of all, I've found a spot for that little white flea market table (for now...who knows where it will migrate in the future!). I put it in the kitchen, of all places. Until we put food pantry in there, we'll have room for the table. Everything is so transitory during a remodel anyway, and I may be crazy for trying to "decorate" an unfinished kitchen just a bit - but that's ok.

Oh how I love the colors red and white!

This is a very old silverplated coffee (tea?) pitcher. The cream and sugar are missing the lids but I really liked the antique look of the set. I never plan to clean them up:)

An old scalloped edge bowl - perfect for the apples that won't fit in the fridge!

Someone made this simple little memo/photo board. It's covered in a pretty cotton plaid and ribbons were attached with upholstery tacks. So simple that I might try to make one myself sometimes. I purchased the photo frame at Goodwill, too, and as you can see, I still need to find a picture to put in it:)

This stack of old scalloped edged plates and saucers was just $4.99. I searched and searched for any bowls or cups that went with the set, but to no avail. These old plates are very lightweight and delicate, have plenty of craze marks and have been well used (and probably loved!) for decades.

Ah, and here is our little man Sky again. He loves to perch at the top of the kitchen cabinets for a birdseye view of the place. Hmm, seeing this photo makes me really wish our crown moulding was up already, lol. But I'm sure Skyler doesn't mind:)

I want to say thanks for Dawn for tagging me for the Thinking Bloggers Award! Wow! It's time for me to tag some Thinking Bloggers and I'll get to that soon.... Thanks again!

On the remodeling front, that pesky dining wall is now sanded and primed (again). It's not perfect, but much better than the first time around (remember I wrote about the ways and dips?). I don't think anyone will be able to tell that there was once a door on the that particular wall. I'm making my peace and moving on:)

Beautiful little setting on your table, but I think you should shine up the tea set just a bit. It is too pretty to be tarnished like that. I love your blog and all your inspirational ideas.

Kim, your little table looks so neat with all your great finds on it! I love the old tea set and books. I'm a real sucker for old books. I use them everywhere in my house!
And Skyler is so cute! My nephew's name is Skyler so I got a kick out of that! We've had a parakeet for the past 18 years and this last one, Buddy, has been with us for over 12 years. He has good days then he has a bad day but still just talks away! They're lots of fun!

Our family has a beloved parakeet named Clipper...we're always cleaning up bird slobber, too! (Among other things....ahem!)

I love how you've set up the table. I just can't get over how gorgeous your vignettes are! They're put together so professionally, like they're out of a magazine. Absolutely perfect, as always!

Miranda: Oh your Skyler is beautiful and sweet too. You don't need a cage?

Obviously I live near the wrong Goodwill lol! I think that white table is beautiful, was the paint already in such great condition? Lucky! And those delicate plates and bowls are really pretty.

Skyler is sporting some beautiful colors too!

Kim, Skyler's so handsome - I had budgies when I was a child. He's showing off your painted cabinetry so well - like that close up so I can now really see what an amazing job you did!
Love the table vignette. The red and white is such a pleasing combination with your green walls -I love while bowls, plates, pitchers etc., and many of my soup tureens are white. Food just looks so perfact on white/cream china.
Glad your wall is OK now - you worked so hard on that spot - good job!

Those are some really great finds. I have managed to steer clear of the thrift and antique stores for awhile now but I sure am missing it and seeing all the great things you've found is making it worse!

Thanks, everyone...you know, most often when I go to Goodwill, I never find too many interesting things. A little this here, a little that there. I can go weeks without finding anything. But I guess that's a good thing from hubs point of view, hehe!

Hi Miranda! Yes, skyler does have a cage but we let him out 2 or 3 times a day to spread his wings a bit. He sure loves getting out - but we just can't let him free while we're trying to eat, hehe! He makes a pest of himself!

Patricia - I found that little table just like...perfectly distressed in just the right places. Most times I find furniture that needs a complete redo. I don't know how I managed to find this one!

Marilyn and chonlahan, I loved reading that you have parakeets, too! ARen't they the sweetest little things (most times)???

I appreciate you all dropping by!

You know after all the work we have done on our house what a nice giggle I got out of you making peace and moving on with the DR wall.
You cetainly found some great goodies. I love the white peices and silver just jumps in my cart. But now you have me so confused. I love old silver that needs a good polish, just the way it is. Then sometimes I like that little shine. And I found a bunch of peices today that all caught a ride home with me. I wonder what will happen to them. :)

I love reading your blog full of ideas. And had to comment that we have a parakeet very similar to Skyler. In fact I wanted to name him Skylar, but was outvoted. We named him Scooter Skywalker ("sometimes Cloud" my 3 y.o. says, although she has never actually called him that.)

Thanks for sharing your lovely home and creativity. :)

Thanks! Hehe, Donna, I knew you could appreciate that! Roberta, how neat about your parakeet you wanted to name Skylar! It does seem fitting, though, with the sky like feathers. But the name you guys chose is a cute one - very original!
