My "Recovery" Nest

I mentioned in my post yesterday that tomorrow, I'm having all four of my wisdom teeth removed (eek!). For the last couple of months, our bedroom has served as a dumping ground of sorts for many of our upcoming yard sale items and each time I have to go in there, I've just dreaded it. I've even frequently slept on the couch to avoid being in there, hehe. The room just wasn't very restful!

But knowing that I would need a place away from everything and everybody after my surgery, I kicked it into high gear this week and tried to create a quaint and peaceful space with a few things I already had on hand. As you can see, our bedroom is teeny-tiny and I'm really looking forward to really changing it in the future. I'm dying to paint the old pine furniture! There are no windows in our bedroom (we'll add them during the remodel), only a door leading to our deck. So to create the illusion of light and windows, I added mirrors and curtains on both sides of the bed and it's amazing how it makes the room seem bigger and less boxy - and more cozy! You can't tell from the photo, but our ceiling is really, really high and peaked, and there is a wooden beam in the center. It makes the room seem bigger than it is, as well.

So this is my "Little House on the Prairie" inspired room - my updated cottage take on it anyway:) The "bedskirt" is just a chenille blanket and the red mattelaise bed cover was a Goodwill find and fits the bed perfectly. On the left, you can see the side of our little armoire that hides the television. I took photos of the details of the room, but I couldn't find my tripod and the lighting is weird as you can tell, so the detailed photos were blurry. You can click these photos to enlarge them, though:) So there you have it - my little recovery nest!

Well, I'm off to enjoy some solid food while I can. Oddly enough, soup sounds good right now!

You have a very cozy nest in which to recover! I'm sure it will all go well. My daughter has to have all four out next month too.

Kim, this looks like the perfect place to recover. Cozy and warm and so soothing. I love the chenille! And I love red!!!! That's the colors in my bedroom, too.

I hope you feel OK. I didn't feel well at all when I had all of my wisdom teeth pulled. At least you have a very pretty place to rest.
Get better soon,

Good for you. My husband had his removed and was just peachy after a few hours and I was in bed for days! Hopefully yours will go smoothly but if not at least you have a beautiful place to spend your recovery period!

Oh, you have totally inspired me! I have been struggling with my bedroom, what direction to go with it... my dh loves red, & we used to have red walls. Our real estate agent said to repaint, which we did though we are staying put for the moment. So we ended up with "cookie crumb" walls and white bedding... now I have ideas about how to incorporate red again! :)

I hope your recovery goes well. :)

I love the idea of using an old chennile coverlet as a bedskirt. I may have to steal that idea.
Wishing you a speedy recovery :0)

I hope you don't mind a suggestion... as a person who's had all four wisdom teeth extracted, and nursed others through the process...

Your pillows and pillow cases are lovely -- but a soft, pretty, but bleachable towel to cover them. You will drool, and you will also bleed. Better not to stain those lovely cases!

Yes... and take the painmeds and ibuprofen on schedule -- don't wait for the pain, prevent it!

And, you will want a nice icepack. Preferably one as pretty as your surroundings. Pack ice on and off every twenty minutes once you get home, for day one.

Best wishes to you for a speeding recovery -- and I bet you won't be any less wise afterwards!

Good luck with your surgery and your little recovery room looks nice and cozy! I wouldn't mind having to spend a few days in it. And you did a great job with the faux windows. As I was reading I was like "what is she talking about, there are windows right there!!" Cute!!

Just checking in to see how recovery is going.

When I had my wisdom teeth removed (I only had 3, but 2 were impacted), I was pleasantly surprised by the lack of pain and swelling.

I had only minor bruising...but I did use ice packs for the first day or so.

Hope you're feeling better!

Hope you are feeling better soon. You were so smart to do that before you had your wisdom teeth out (maybe I should have said that you were "wise" while you still had those teeth?). It is just awful to feel sick and achey, and have to stare at a mess. A calm, relaxing, pretty spot always makes bedrest go easier.

Wisdom teeth, yikes! I hope you are feeling well by now. My Sweet Hubby has to have his out soon and I'm dreading it. I'd rather have mine out again than take care of him when he's down.

Thanks for the book recommedation. I will check it out. I think I've heard of that book before.
