Yard Sales - How I've Missed You

I've been especially good this spring at not bringing anymore "stuff" into our home. Surprisingly enough, I haven't been to a yard sale this year at all, I don't think. I'm preparing for a yard sale of my own right now and goodness, we need the space! But this weekend, I spied out a yard sale just right down the road and I thought maybe I'd take a peek. It was near noon and I figured that probably all the "good stuff" was gone by then anyway. No huge risk of actually finding anything, right?

I guess it goes without saying that I did find a little goody. I've been thinking lately that I'd like a piece of furniture under my (once gold) mirror in the living room, something to put flowers or books on - and what do you know - I found it! It's an old little telephone table, I was told. I also found a couple more items that I'll write about later. So I brought my new old table home, put it in place, and cut a bouquet of roses from my rose bush to place on top. It's like the table belonged there all along, don't you think?

I love the little niche inside - a perfect place to slide my Carl Larsson books. The table is sturdy but the finish needs attention. I can't decide if I should keep it dark or paint it white. Eventually we will have very tall white beadboard in the living room, kitchen, and hallway, so I guess it depends on if I want contrast or softness. Hmmm....something to think about:)

I've also been trying to pare down and simplify. I gave a lot of stuff to my kids who are in their own homes now but I really need to have a yard sale too. I still like to look but if I bring something I can't resist in I get rid of something else at my local consignment shop. Glad to be reading your posts again.

I will be having a huge "moving sale" soon as we are doing a military relocation to VA Beach.

Although I love white painted furniture, I like the contrast in the photo of the dark table. It would pop against the white beadboard too. Either way, I'm sure it will look beautiful. Great find!

We are trying to simplify our lives a lot but it's so nice to find that perfect little table for a special spot in our homes. I found one this last weekend. It needs work, which I've started, and I can't wait to get it in place and share pictures. Your finds were wonderful. ~Adrienne~

Hey Kim, I had to write you again because I think I scored a good find. I was at Home Goods and there was a framed Kim Parker, signed, limited edition glicee print for a really low price. It looks like it is Lush Garden. I love it and in looking on line it looks like the signed limited edition glicee prints go for big money. I'll definitely blog about this one. I've always loved yours.

Cute table!! I'm dying to go to a yard sale but because I can't currently drive (long story), I haven't been able to go! I've been reading these cottage blogs, and seeing all the cute things that you guys are finding at such great prices is awesome!! I really like the vase you have the beautiful roses in, too.

They say there is nothing wrong with bringing new items in the house as long as you take things out along the way...that is the hard part!

The red roses are beautiful on your new table.

Love the table & mirror - they look great dark. I think they will really pop against the white beadboard you are planning. I too am a garage sale fan - some of my favorite things have cost less than $5!

Hmm. Keep it dark or paint it white? I like it dark. Very nice contrast from the Pitcher and Basin.
