Fellow Cottage Transformations Blogs

If you're looking for other cottage transformation journeys (in the beginning stages!), I've discovered a couple of blogs recently that you will enjoy keeping up with. I look forward to reading the ideas and plans they have for their own cottages in the making and I'm sure you will, too!

The Lettered Cottage
"We live in a 1910 square foot cottage in Prattville, Alabama...Since then we've been tearing down walls, installing flooring and re-painting EVERY surface in the entire place. I will include some interior photos in a future post. But I must include this warning:
What you are about to see is ill-favored, hard-featured, uncomely, unsightly, unlovely, homely, heinous, vile, monstrous, and ominous.

Welcome to our home. :-)"

Cornflower Cottage
"My husband, Al, and I are beginning the process of renovating our home. We live in a 1,600 sq. ft. manufactured home with 3 bedrooms and 2 baths, which we bought new in November '02. We like the floor plan of our home but everything else must go, e.g., vinyl-covered wall panels with the vertical strips, laminate cabinets, nondescript light fixtures, cheap hardware and faucets, cottage cheese ceilings, etc. I love all things cottage and hope to transform my home into the cottage of my dreams."

And for all of you who are considering cottage style for your own home, remember, you don't have to have an "architecturally correct" period style cottage to make your home your cottage. I live in a 30 year old little ranch style home. We haven't even touched the outside of our house yet (and it will be quite a while before we get to it), but it is our cottage none-the-less. There are many folks who live in apartments (Cindy's My Romantic Home is a prime example of a cottage style apartment!), mansion sized homes, campers, mobile homes, basement and over the garage rentals, cabins in the backwoods, and skyscrapers in the big city - that have embraced their cottage style and have created their own cottage nests. Cottage is a state of being and a style and feeling you create that is all your own without regard to the actual type of dwelling in which you live, don't you think?!

Thanks for sharing those!
I was wondering how your bathroom is coming along. Ours is still just the pits. Oh well the weekend is here!

BTW, my sister got two little sparrows yesterday and it made me think of you. :)

Thanks for the inspiring words! I don't have a "cottage" house either (1960 ranch), but I love the IDEA of it being a cottage :)

Hi Kim! What a great post. I Live in a 70's (whisper) ranch, but don't tell that to my house---It still thinks it's a Cottage! SHHH!

Claire! I'm sorry to hear about your bathroom. If it makes you feel any better, ours is still gutted just like we left it. I just want the the main part of the house livable at this point. I'm hoping to start on the bathroom next year? Hoping? Hang in there! I understand! That's so sweet about the sparrows...I love little birds!

shanae and ambrea, looks like our homes know what they want to be despite being born ranches, huh?!

Thanks for spreading the word about my blog. I feel like I'm part of the most perfect circle of friends a girl could ask for.

I'm going to post a "Guest Room renovation" video on my blog soon, so stay tuned!

Hi Kim! Thank you for putting my blog out there for others to check out. Reading your blog and so many others' out there has inspired me to turn my home into the cottage I've been wishing for. Hubby's ankle is healing nicely so we are getting geared up to get some major renovations started!
Sending good wishes your way!

Thank you for the links! I also liked what you had to say about not living in a cottage style home but still making it OUR cottage. I, like Cindy, live in an apartment, and I'm on the journey of creating my own cottage retreat....four floors up!! :-)
