Tuesday's Kitchen

I'm preparing for my cake decorating class tonight, which involves baking a cake (I made chocolate) and about nine cups of frosting. Seriously, my waistline has expanded since starting these classes. What's a girl to do? Is it really possible to *not* eat cake?

Studio work continues. Yesterday I primed and painted the window trim for the "faux" skylights and still need to add another coat of paint. I also worked on the headboard and filled in the nail holes in the steps and also in the trim work hubs added to the studio a few days ago.

This coming weekend, I hope to get the ceiling painted and the fan and ceiling lights installed after their makeovers. I went to get the paint yesterday for the fan and the one light I have left to do and it was all gone - and was still out of stock today. It is Krylon Brown Camouflage spray paint. Yes, I know...that is quite the choice for paint but I've used this particular paint and color for so many applications and absolutely love it. It is a matte finish and sprays on so easily - and looks very much like oil rubbed bronze. You can add a clear coat as well for protection and sheen. I always hate to run out of it as it is my first choice for anything that I need painted brown. Try it out and see if you like it! (See the topiary in the photos above? The container was a terra cotta color but I painted it with the camouflage paint!)

If you haven't yet, please put your guess in for my studio remodel guessing contest. You all have come up with a lot of great and creative ideas for that antique headboard already! Thanks for playing!

I LOVED my cake decorating class. When we did the 'color flow' class I refused to do the pattern they had and found a LION in a coloring book to make for my kid....I have the picture and it is STILL one of my favorite class!

If your teacher doesn't tell you....instead of icing between layers put a dam of icing and use pudding..makes your cakes less RICH, very moist and I get alot of oohs and ahhhs over it!

I have wondered about that color. i have picked it up more than a couple of times. I love spray paint, and a good spray paint-oh be still my heart!
I used a product yesterday-spray polyerethane-oh my heck-where have I been? talk about living under a rock. If you have not ever used this product-you must go and get some-today. it is so slick and easy-you will be so happy that you did. Makes painting those ugly brass lamps-really super easy-pray with color than use the poly to make so they don't chip.
Oh, how do I know this. Maybe because I have had some major chipping issues until I got smart!
Better late than never I guess!
So wish that I lived closer-I would come to your classes. I would eat cake too. You know-you have the best of both worlds-have your cake and eat it too!
How is this comment for a short novel!

How to Avoid Eating All that Luscious Cake: rent 2 19 year old boys if you don't have any handy...you will, however, need a lot of milk; or take the beauty to your husband's office....they will say silly things like 'you are so sabotaging my diet, etc.' BUT they will eat the cake and you won't have to. Good luck!! Karen Greenfield

Hi there! So good to see your studio progressing -- your faux desserts truly blow my mind! I love seeing what you're up to on both blogs -- fantastic! And I am dying to know what color you're going to paint your studio!!!! Thanks for the oil-rubbed-bronze paint color tip, too!

My mother took cake decorating classes when I was little and her solution to the waistline issue was to give her cakes to a neighbor or friend. She got all the fun, none of the guilt :)
