A { Hair } Makeover & Random Facts about Kim
Well, no home makeover project photos to share today, but last night I did get a hair makeover. I didn't think to take a "before" shot, but my hair was lightish brown, long and all one length. I got about 8 or 9 inches of my hair cut {yes, it really was long!}. I don't often color my hair but whenever I do, I'm drawn to red. Go figure! So here are some after photos as well as some random facts about moi...
I will be 36 in January.
I've been married for 17 years.
I have 3 children - all girls going on age 15, 10, and 9.
They were born in three completely different settings - the 1st at the hospital, the 2nd at home, and the 3rd ant a birth center. Two were with the help of midwives.
I was injured {whiplash} on a wooden roller coaster 14 years ago which later resulted in the onset of fibromyalgia. It has been challenging and life changing both to me and my family, and I don't feel that I'm the same person I would be without it. {Life goes on though - just at a slower pace!}
I'm an introvert. To say that I'm not a party animal is a grand understatement. When I do go to a social event where there will be lots of people and activity, I have to take a nap afterward - and most definitely before.
I cannot kill bugs and spiders. I just "rehome" them if necessary.
I'm a huge, HUGE Little House on the Prairie fan, both of the books and the show.
I have a kind of crazy sense of style. My purple or hot pink or turquoise or RED tights make my heart skip a beat.
I watch very little TV...We got rid of our cable a few months ago.
I love reading historical fiction and nonfiction. I'm currently into reading books that center around the Civil War. I've never read Gone With the Wind but purchased it last week.
My brain is not a sponge. It is a sieve and I remember very few details of what I read.
I tend to be scatterbrained and confuse easily {myself and others...} and tend to be unorganized. He won't say it but I think it kind of drives Hubs crazy.
I read to my daughter's class on Fridays.
I am and will always be a loner of sorts. It's a personal preference. When Hubs says "call a girlfriend and go out", I grab a coffee and a book instead. I think having 3 children has something to do with that - Solitude is a wonderful gift.
Many years ago, I was a web designer.
I do not observe holiday celebrations though I am a devoted Christian, baptized in 1989.
I do not adore sports. The raucous of roaring crowds and the droning voices of sports announcers on TV during games makes me feel on edge. Hubs loves football.
Old houses also make my heart skip a beat.
So there you have it - a few random things you may or may not have known about me. Enthralling, eh? I hope you all have a great week! We'll be busy laying hardwood flooring in a couple of days and I have the task of removing everything from the living room. Now where to put it all?

Although we have a few things in common (I'm 36, have FOUR girls- 15,12,7, and 5) this statement struck the biggest chord for me!
Love your hair- what a great color and cut!!
I love your hair! I am also drawn to red (I also love your red cabinets in the kitchen)...did you have your stylist do it or did you do it yourself? Did you do your eyebrows too? I tried that once...well we won't talk about that! What color are your cabinets BTW?
familymonaghan@gmail.com
You look smashing! The hair color perfectly compliments your complection. (You didn't mention in your random facts that you have beautiful skin)
I appreciate your sharing tidbits about yourself ~ It somehow enhances each post when you know a bit more about the author :)
Kindly, ldh
You look beautiful! I think you have alot of things in common with alot of your fans.
It was fun getting to know you better. The nice thing about not remembering the details of what you've read is that it will be all new when you read it again, lol!
Love the cut and the color, very cute!
~ Nan
Just going by your description, your hair transformation looks fabulous! I love the color! I was thinking of trying an auburn myself, having always been dark brown {even naturally!}. These pictures are great and you are very pretty!
I'm also a loner or more of on my own type person. A book or favorite old movie or magazine is one of my favorite ways to spend time. Except for this time of year, when I'm doing crafts and visiting blogland way too much!
I have goosebumps! You described me....even my dislike for game sounds...especially football...and in my house Nascar too...yuk!
I love Little House on the Prairie and I'm actually giving away Little House on the Prairie Cookbooks for Christmas this year.
I use to take naps all the time until I found out I had an underactive thyroid...medicine took care of that.
We like the same books and OMG, my brain is like a seive too, on some things! LOL!
Solitude is my best friend. I desire quiet time and MUST make time for it.
Your hair cut is pretty. I love you kitchen makeover too. Drop in on me sometime and say hello.
First, I love your hair! The color is beautiful! I don't know what it looked like before, but you like you were meant to be with the red. :-)
I love learning these things about fellow bloggers, its so nice to put a personality with the blog.
BTW, I love that you dont kill bugs. I don't kill them either. We relocate them. I would feel horrible if I killed a little critter. In fact, I have a huge spider on the wall looking at me as I type this out. I will not relocate him, too big, I will save this one for my husband.
I love your hair! And I never heard it called to "re-home" a bug or spider but that is what I do!! I do not not kill bugs because I am squeamish...but rather because I feel like they don't deserve to die just because they got into my house.:) I usually trap them in a paper cup with Kleenex and them relocate them to the outdoors!
Love both the style and colour of your hair. I too have been married for 17 years, but I'm 44. Know what you mean about the sieve vs. sponge. Mine is a leaky sponge, tons goes in but it seems too much leaks out.
Thanks for sharing and giving us a chance to get to know you.
I love red too!! I am a pitch black hair girl with tons of freckles! I always thought it would be fun to go red! You look FAB! and it really looks great with your skin!Very nice!
Love this post! We have a lot in common...
Amy
You left off - you have a great blog and wonderfully decorated house! Your hair looks great! I enjoy your blog!
Your hair looks beautiful! It's perfect with your eyes and complexion. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
PS You're gonna love GWTW. I read it when I was 12 and was absolutely mesmerized.
Great haircut! Love hearing fun facts about you, thanks for sharing... Dee Dee
Thanks for sharing "you" facts I always love to get to know my blog friends better. Beautiful new hairstyle too!!
This color is perfect for you.
Did you know I love red? ahah!
I can definitely relate to you, although I'm only 20, with only one girl so far.
It was really fun learning more about you!
One of my aunt has fibromyalgia. It's a really thought condition... It's great that you do so many things around your house, my auntie almost stop living... She doesn't even cook anymore!
And I thought I was a little crazy to relocate spiders! ah!
That was eerie...why you ask?-- because you just described me!!! Wow. There are a few differences, I have two children (age 14 and 11) and have not been married 17 years (wow, what an accomplishment!). I love the hair...you have very beautiful skin.Have you read John Adams by David McCollough? The Civil War is a passion of mine and I have read GWTW and seen the movie multiple times which is a feat in itself! I live just outside Atlanta and would like to think I am Scarlett every so often :-} Keep up the good work on the blog!

Hey Kim, I stumbled across your blog the other day and I'm so glad I did. Thanks so much for sharing. We definitely seem to have a lot in common, not the least of which is an unwillingness to kill (even the ugliest) creepy crawlers. Wonderful blog ... and although I too love Little House on the Prairie, as a good Canadian girl, Anne of Green Gables will always be my favorite.
Such a pretty girl! I had my first child at 17, and she'll be 35 on Saturday! I'm an introvert, hate sports noise, and avoid tv. Won't go to parties if they're not on a blog, and I probably haven't been out at night in years. Barely know how to turn my car lights on. Seems we have a few things in common!
Brenda
Your hair looks great, the color is beautiful on you!
It was nice to get to know you better. I especially liked the tidbit about being alone. Having three kids as well, a quiet hour alone with a coffee and a decor magazine is bliss to me.
~Michelle
I love, love your hair. I used to do hair in a salon and have always loved red heads. You have inspired me to paint my kitchen cabinets red. I did not know that I could love red soooo much! Ha, go figure. Everything that you said about yourself made me laugh. You sounded like my twin sister. My husband even said that you described me in everything that you said about yourself...go figure. LOL
You look absolutely fabulous, darling! LOVE your hair! Reading the little facts about you makes me think I would find you endlessly interesting in real life as well. We have a ton in common!
It's a good thing you are a 'loner', with a busy social life, we might not hear from you as often! :)
Love the hairdo! I never saw a pic of the before, but I have to say you are the youngest 36 I've seen!
Dear Kim,
I got in this evening to find the wonderful words you left on my blog. Thank you so much for your kindness and support. I hope you'll return.
I knew you were a beautiful person but your photo is proof positive. Your hair looks great!
A Kindred Spirit,
Deborah
Ugh, I'm afraid I'm going to have to remove my comment that stated my religion along with Chloe's comment that mentioned it... {I'm sorry, Chloe!}. The nasty comments from those that purposely seek us out online to leave garbage have begun...I just deleted one. Happens every time!
Thanks, girls! Looks like I'm not the only introverted, Prairie loving, bug rehomer out there!
Strangeways, I had my stylist do the hair for me {I took the photos right after I got home last night}. She told me could do my eyebrows for me but I opted to just color them with a pencil since I do that anyway when I do my makeup. Oh, the cabinet color is called "Cherry" - it's a Waverly color at Lowes.
Chloe, I can't remember I took the Meyers-Briggs before - if I haven't I've taken similar. And yes - I am one of {deleted}:) I've mentioned it in the past but have had to be careful about spelling it out too often because there are some folks out there that actually google us with the intent of finding blogs and websites to leave mean comments and to post false information. I've had to remove several offensive comments in the past, unfortunately.
How neat reading about other bug preservers! I nearly always just leave the spiders alone, or if they are somewhere where food isn't readily available {like the bathroom}, I'll move them to a window sill.:) I think it helps the kids, too, to not develop a fear of insects and to just view them as harmless living creatures.
I loved reading about all the similarities - How neat!
You'll love Gone With The Wind, I did at least! Scarlett is worse in the book than in the movie. I love historical fiction too. I don't remember details of what I read either, that's how I can read things again. I will be 36 in April. I totally agree with the "solituded is a wonderful gift." statement! Your hair is darling!
teri
You and I have had our diagnoses of fibromyalgia for almost the same length of time. I agree with you that I'm not the same person I would be if I didn't have it; the Lord has used it to make me more like Him. It has been difficult for my girls, growing up from early ages with a mom who couldn't do all the things they wanted to. During the past four years, I have been the primary caregiver for my husband, who has incurable cancer. It has been extremely difficult to care for his needs, which include a lot of medical appointments, given my severe limitations. I take great comfort in knowing that God's grace is sufficient for me! Thanks for sharing your random bits of information; it's great to get to "know" you better.
Love your blog...and your hair! I've been following your blog since I found it in my search for some inspiration for a kitchen makeover, and a few weeks ago I found your red cupboards and just ADORE them!! It's my new 'dream kitchen' model!
By way of random coincidences...I am also 36, married for 17 years on Friday, (I have 4 kids), love Little House, watch little TV (no cable), a Christian AND just colored my hair red a week ago!!!! Pretty funny, huh? (Well, at least I thought so...)
Just found your blog and I love it. I'm adding you to my blogroll. :) Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving.:)
What a wonderful post.
First, love the hair. I'm desiring to color my blonde hair red too.
I too am a loner (of sorts) and yes, it's a personal preference. I also would prefer to have a cup of coffee, a good book and solitude.
I am older than you (43), I have 3 children (b-19, g-15, and b-8) married for 17 years, and a Christian.
I love your home and the way you just allow your passion to be expressed through your decorating.
There are folks like me all over blog land! I'm so happy to meet you...I'm loving reading these!
Ginny, hang in there - I can only imagine the challenges you must face in caring for your husband while struggling with fibro. You are a wonderful wife for continuing to give your all despite the obstacles! I wish you and your husband only the best!
"I am and will always be a loner of sorts. It's a personal preference. When Hubs says "call a girlfriend and go out", I grab a coffee and a book instead. I think having 3 children has something to do with that - Solitude is a wonderful gift." I completely identify with this! I just wish my husband wouldn't think its "weird". ;-)
Amazing to me that you're 36 and have been married for 17 years! I'm 35 and can't imagine that.
I love your blog but haven't visted in a while (link never used to work in my reader). I re-added it so I'm hoping it works now. ;-)
You're beautiful!
LOVE love LOVE your hair cut and color! It suits you Kim (((hugs))
-Chari
You look sweet and lovely!
Thanks for sharing a little more about yourself! And well I can definitely see your crazy sense of style -- it is reflected in your blogs posts (beret hats, that collection of clothes from older family members.. etc) -- in a good way!
Great pictures and it's so fun to read some random facts about you. I love the new hair.
Thanks for sharing! I really enjoy reading your blog, so it's nice to know a little more about the person about the keyboard. Your hair looks great...the red really suits you!~Lisa
oops...meant person BEHIND the keyboard. Have a great day!
Love your hair. The color looks great on you. Thanks for sharing some fun facts about yourself. I love getting to know more about other people, especially when I read their blog. Have a wonderful day!
Love your hair! You look gorgeous!!! I am a huge LHOTP fan too!
Hi Kim. I'm just popping over from MakeMineBeautiful to let you know you won a follower's giveaway. Come on over and see what info I need from ya.
PS, I couldn't get your email link to work.
Nice to meet you! Wish I had your gorgeous red hair! Here from Make Mine Pretty. Congrats on your win!
Btw, the sixth photo could be a close up of Nicole Kidman!
I think it's horrible that you had to change your post.
(((Kim)))
me too.. what you said.
'cept I do like to watch HGTV. But I'd much rather have a book, a cup of coffee and time all alone.
beautiful hairdo!
You are a woman after my heart--solitude is wonderful and I'd love to go red. Time to check out your older posts.
Kim -
I don't have Twitter so I will leave my message here regarding your living room floor installation blues --
Keep your chin up! It will soon be over with and so worth all your efforts. Can't wait to see the pictures when you are completed.
I love that you wear colorful tights! Please post a picture!
Beautiful Hair...love the color and cut! I think being a loner of sorts is a good thing at times! I have found that when I'm alone, I am more creative and more relaxed...too many people stress me out. Don't do sholder to sholder crowds very well.
Your hair is so super cute I can't stand it! I need a cut...and your 8 to 9 inches is inspiring to me!
We appear to have a lot in common...includuing the "rehoming" of spiders and bugs. :-)
I stumbled onto your blog thru a friend and I have really enjoyed it. I would love for you to come and redecorate my house (looks alot like your before pics)
I also have fibromyalgia and understand the napping and the confusion. I just did a christmas card workshop with a friend and slept the whole next day.
Love the hair color too. It really suits your skin tone.
Your hair looks great, and really natural for you. I totally relate to you on being a loner. When I go somewhere, I get a little nervous, and b/c I'm talkative, I tell myself, don't talk. Then I get there, talk and laugh like crazy, and then I have to get back home. I love people, but I need my space and need to regroup by myself, my home, my kids, my quiet life. I'm glad you posted about you, it's nice to get to "know" you lol. Karen
Sounds like we have alot in common! Thanks for sharing!
i love your color and cut! it's so flattering. i'm like you ... my brain is not a sponge! and i'm with you on little house on the prairie!
fabulous hair!!! I always love random facts about people, they become real! Rachaelxo
Thank you so much for sharing so much about yourself. It's so nice to be able to put a face (and details) with the posts in your blog.
I love your red hair! Fabulous! I am an au natural girl myself and have defiantly resisted the urge to do anything to the bits of gray. But seeing your hair really is making me rethink that decision.
http://firstadream.blogspot.com/
I love your hair! It's such a beautiful color.
You are gorgeous my dear sister.
Hugs
First - your hair looks AMAZING! I LOVE it!!
Second - add me to the list of introverts! I enjoy being by myself or just home with my family - I can't tell you the last time we "went out" that wasn't a family get together.
I bet you'd be surprised at how many bloggers are the same way!! I think that's one of the reasons why we all "connect" so well!
~TidyMom
Ok, love the hair color, beautiful, I could never be a red head, so sad, parts of your description of yourself, I thought you were talking about me...LOL, I am curious though, what is your Christian faith? I too do not observe holidays but am a devoted Christian baptized in July of 1989. love your blog
