Kitchen and Dining Beadboard Installation Progress
Hi, everyone! How are you today? We are enjoying some nice warm weather here in these parts, but I'm wondering how long it's going to last? I'm itching to start attempting to spruce up our landscaping beds, but I know better to plant anything this early despite how beautiful and cheap the red tulips are now at Home Depot!
On Friday night, we finally purchased all the materials we've been needing to tackle some major projects, namely beadboard wainscoting! Our plans for Saturday were to build the faux fireplace in the dining room and get the beadboard and trimwork installed.
But you know how plans go. We had forgotten that we needed to first do some electrical work in the dining room. There was no convenient outlet in there so hubs spent part of the morning running wire for the new outlet. Pretty, eh?
But then, just as soon as we got started on the beadboard installation, we discovered that the hardware store cut most of our beadboard sheets wrong {we just needed them cut exactly in half}. The result was some halves were too short and some were too long, so back to Home Depot they went. That ate a good chunk of our work time, but we were able to get a little finished. The photo below is a completed area around our fridge. The back dining room wall is where the faux fireplace will go, but the entire room will be "beadboarded".
Below is where we left off - the other side of the wall in the photo above. So when this Saturday rolls around, we hope to get even more beadboard added. I've waited for beadboard for so long and I can hardly wait!
Until then, I'm going to try to make this piece of art work for our home by transforming it into something completely different. My secret ingredient? Fingernail polish remover! If it turns out, I'll be sure to share...and if doesn't, you'll be the first to know!

I love beadboard! I can tell it's going to look great and I can't wait to find out what you've got up your sleeve with that painting!

Never seen a faux fireplace! This will be interesting!
Nothing says cottage charm like beadboard. Do you like working with the paneling? We went with the individual pieces. I know it will look lovely and am so excited for you! Hmm, nail polish remover? Can't wait to see the results! Smart to hold off on spring planting. These are just teaser days.

Kim...we really are living parallel lives! lol I have beadboard on our kitchen back splash that wraps around a corner where we are going to do a breakfast nook. I have half done half not and that cute little red air compressor sitting beside it. :) Love the air compressor and our guns and I am sure you feel the same! I love how this is going to look in your kitchen and adding more detailing...love it!!! I know you will be happy when it is complete!
Hugs,
Victoria
Beadboard always gives a room a homey feel. Can't wait to see the faux fireplace. And I am way curious about that painting and what you'll be doing with the fingernail polish remover.
Hi Kim, I was itching too so I got out on Monday, it was gorgeous here so I cleaned out my flower beds and I planted bulbs. I read in a gardening mag. that its ok to plant bulbs after the ground softens and you should be able to get spring flowers still. We shall see. I'll post it if it works. Beadboard looks great. I LOVE beadboard.
hugs
The beadboard is coming along nicely. I'm intrigued about the painting!
Oh, happy day! I've been following your blog from the very, very beginning, so this must be an exciting day! It's going to be fabulous.
Can't wait to see the beadboard finished. I also have big plans for beadboard. I Love it! I guess I will have to wait with great anticipation for your post about what you are going to do with finger nail polish remover. I'm not very good with patience, so HURRY!
Love beadboard. Probably verging on too much here in my own house.
Can't wait to see what you do with that painting. Hope it works the way you want it to!
Hi there,
I have followed your blog for a long time. In fact when I click on the bookmark the page that comes up is from June 2006 about decoupaging flowers onto a painted floor!
You helped me once before with a beadboard question and I'm writing to ask for help once more.
I would love to use your illustration of the daisy in the larger bouquet from your post in February.
I would be using it to communicate a truth to an individual about a kindergarten classroom and the importance of helping each student reach their potential.
This is from me to another individual. It is not for publishing or anyone else to see.
I would be happy to credit the photo to you.
I tried to email you this question but the link did not work.
I'll look for your answer in the comments or you can email me at mariptx@aol.com
Thank you in advance!! Ü

Can't wait to see the finished dining room! I want to put up beadboard in our bathroom, so if you have tips, please share! I find myself obsessing about how to put beadboard around outlets and pipes (then I can't get to sleep for thinking about it).
I don't think you can have too much beadboard!
I'll be sure to share some tops about the installation as we get more installed. We're learning as we go to say the least!
