2009 Twice Remembered Photo Highlights + "Life Behind the Pretty Pictures" Link Event???
While I'm working on other things here at home right now, I thought it might be fun to do a 2009 "year in photos" - a round up of sorts of some snapshots from last year. Those of you who have been visiting for a while have probably already seen all of these, but I'm thrilled that I've had a lot of new visitors as of late - so what better way to acquaint everyone with the "little tumble down house" we call Twice Remembered?
While we're on the subject of photographs, can I say something? Please don't get the impression that everywhere I turn here, there is a photographic opportunity awaiting me...auuuu contraire!
I'll be the first to admit that there is a lot of staging that goes on behind most of my photographs
Sometimes I think we may from time to time start to feel a bit down on ourselves because our homes may not look like the photographs we see online, but let me tell you a secret: Most of the time, my home doesn't look like the photographs I take for my own blog! I'll be the first to admit that there is a lot of staging that goes on behind most of my photographs - as well as a lot of laundry and clutter and remodeling projects and pet hair tumbleweeds and birdseeds and bits & pieces of life. I have three children, two dogs, two birds, and my very own not-so-neat self to pick up after, and it seems it's a never ending battle! Ah, yes - there is a reason why you've rarely seen whole room photographs of Twice Remembered {cue the What's on Top of My Fridge post}. As we finish projects, that will change, though there will always be laundry and clutter and bits & pieces of life to contend with. But I hope for now you don't mind little snapshots and vignettes of the the little place we call Twice Remembered.:)You know what - I'm thinking we should have a link event soon to share our real life day to day homes? You know - life behind the pretty pictures? We'd call it "Life Behind the Pretty Pictures". Hmmm, I wonder how many would participate? Would you?
And don't forget, between blog posts, you can always catch daily Twice Remembered snippets about all things decorating, homemaking, and life on my Twice Remembered Facebook page. I hope to have you join us there! And look...Ruby obviously wants you to come, too!

Thank you so much for this post! I have been beating myself up for a while now wondering how everyone keeps their homes so "picture perfect". It's good to know that not everyone's are.You must have been reading my mind because I almost posted about this very topic yesterday. I am a mother of 3 teen boys, I have 2 house dogs & I work 8-16 hours a day. Sometimes I pat myself on the back for just getting the dishes done. I can show you some pretty pictures of the pet hair tumbleweed...lol...I for one would LOVE to see a link up for "Life Behind the Pretty Pictures".
I think a photojournal of behind the scenes in REAL LIFE would be great..we see so much online of these beautifully decorated homes, nothing out of place and you just know darn well theres more to the picture. Or at least we hope so and I am not the only gal online with such a mess going on. I'm game!

I love this post ... I'm new to your blog (and to blogging)! You emailed me such a sweet note about my fireplace. I have to say, I LOVE your style ... so crisp, everything flows and your vignettes are beautiful !! I loved looking at your year in review as those pics are new to me ... love the vignette on top of your fridge, too !! Thanks for keeping it real, too !! Take care, Becca (Adventures in Decorating)
I'm sure we are all do that. My hubby laughed at me just the other day because when I take my food photos often times there is a cooking mess all around it that's purposely left out of the photo. =) I had just cleared a spot to take the photo. He thinks thats funny. {Some of the mess was sneaking through my Victorian Lemon Cake photo though}
And I'm with Mary I'm happy if I get any dishes done! =)
Absolutely~ I'd link up! I think everyone stages, even just a little bit for their pictures. I like seeing your close-ups and vignette pictures. Sometimes it's those little vignettes that can make us happy.
Okay, the pic of your magnetic Scrabble board finally got to me... I'm breaking down. I've got to do it!
My daughter and I got a kick out of the bird peeking around the pitcher pic and the close ups of the bird and dog! Fab. Also I loved seeing the cute clips again! I've made my valentine clips already for my friends! Your photography is so fun and reminds me to slow down and take shots of everyday things! Thank you for this post! Inspirational.
I love the eye candy you've provided in this post. I so appreciate your colors and style. Count me in on the link-up to your "Life Behind . . . " !!! It's a great idea, and I think it will be a lot of fun to share and view other's "behind the scenes" views!
Thanks for sharing.
I have for some time admired and really wanted those sparkly magnets I have seen on your site. The one that says "dream" above. Did you make those yourself? Or can I buy those somewhere?
Thanks!
Great photo review. Thanks for sharing. ~ Sarah
Love your style, and honesty :)
Thank you for the truth behind the blogs. I laughed because I stag a few things, then after the picture everything goes back to normal. Thanks for the past memories and inspiration. I do think of you often everytime I walk in my kitchen. I love visiting your blog. It's amazing how much I love red now!LOL!
I love all these great photos.
I think most of us do stage our photos so they will be pretty and interesting.
Thanks so much for sharing your pretty pictures.
your home looks so refreshing, I love your decorating style and your pretty pictures :)
Everytime I come and visit.. it's like a class in decorating and design.
I've learn from you my dear what importance it is to 'stage a photo' as other items captured within might take away from your purpose.
Thanks for that!
with love and I send a few kisses,
Olivia
Thanks for your honesty. Today I sat down to read your post leaving dirty dishes to be washed in the sink, laundry piled up to be folded on my bed, and Christmas decorations to be packed away on my dining table and thought, surely all of these creative, beautiful homes in the blog world never look like this! Your post reminded me that messiness is a part of living life, and living life wonderfully. Thanks!
You do an amazing job with your staging and photography! It was fun to look back at some past pics :). And thanks for the reminder that all of us are just keepin' it real!
Blessings,
Stacey
Hey, I'd for sure play along with the *Real* stuff...that's my life everyday! Love all the past pics too..thanks for showing and telling(O:
We had to take some pictures of our house when it was for sale and the generic pictures our realtor took of our home didn't show the house well. So we took it upon ourselves to do some staging and take some new pictures. The end result turned out fabulous but boy was that ALOT of work and VERY time consuming! I love your pictures ...
You do realize this is why we love you, don't you? You are so genuine. Still, don't stop posting those beautiful vignettes. They are so inspiring.

You are all so sweet - I was expecting a few followers to drop off my list. I mean, dog hair tumbleweeds? Thank you ALL for understanding! Life can be messy, that's for sure!
Wow, it looks like we have several that are interested in a "Life Behind the Pretty Pictures" link event! That's wonderful to hear!
Jolanda, yes, I made those magnets myself. I'm going to do a tutorial in the future but just so you know for now, they are just chipboard letters that I purchased at a craft store. I sprayed them with adhesive spray and then sprinkled them with fine glitter. Lastly I superglued tiny little rare earth magnets to the back. They're really easy! Have fun with yours!
Hello
WOnderful pictures, I so enjoyed this post. I don't know how many times I have cropped something out of a picture that I didn't want to post...usually something I didn't pick up or didn't notice,
Blessings
yes, yes, yes!
I have wanted to do a post about real life, w/o cropping real life out of the photos of the post. I would for sure participate!
I think it is so important that our readers know we are real people, too, with crumbs and spider webs and dust bunnies.
What beautiful photos. A lot of those are new to me, thank you for sharing!
