Day 2: Kitchen Cabinet Makeover Challenge

I.am.whooped.

Today was nonstop, and not just with painting. I dropped Zoe off at a friend's house around 8am and then zoomed to Wally Word to pick up a cake, which I then had to take over to the girls' school and deliver to the teacher's lounge(it's Teacher Appreciation week, btw:).

After I got settled back at home, I slapped another coat of primer on the cabinet shelves (which have all been removed from the cabinets) and added basecoat to one side of four cabinet doors. Then I spent a good deal of time taping off the inner edges of the cabinets because the insides are to stay off-white...I didn't want to get any red paint in there. Later after I picked the girls up from school, I began adding the first coat of RED to all the cabinets and shelves. I had to get to a stopping place at one point so that I could watch the girls perform a little play in the backyard. They made cute little paper puppets on popcicle sticks and everything...so cute:) After I got their autographs, lol, I returned to painting. I wanted to get everything first coated with red by the days end...That doesn't seem like much but what a challenge it was! It's amazing how much one has to multitask when working on projects while caring for children. I'm pretty sure I was painting, giving the kids their bath, and making dinner all at the same time. After dinner, I cleaned the kitchen, gave out spelling words, ran a load of laundry...and probably painted something.

When the girls had their story and were properly tucked in, I came back to the kitchen to add another coat of red paint to the shelves. By 10pm, everything had been covered in at least one coat! Yay for me! *clap clap* (Can you tell I'm a mother of young children?)

One coat of red paint down...just three more to go!

Here is what the cabinets look like with one coat of red paint (click to enlarge):

Here is a comparison of the one finished cabinet (on the left) to the rest of the cabinets that only have one coat:

Way to go- you sure seem to get a lot accomplished, even with kids! I hope I have the same energy as you once I have this baby and it gets a bit older. Any pictures?

I noticed you posted this at 12:29 am! Do you get enough sleep? You're like the energizer bunny but remember that the batteries do eventually run out.

That's awesome! I know all about multi-tasking. Keep up the good work, but do take some time to rest once in a while.

I've looked at your blog off and on for quite a while now, but never commented...I just want to tell you that I admire all the hard work you and your husband are doing; your vision, planning, waiting, and working are such an inspiration to me...it has been so much fun to see your house change...thanks for sharing!

Hi Trissa and thanks! My camera cardreader broke a couple of weeks ago and we've yet to pick up another:( I have been taking pictures though and will try to share those as soon as I can:)

Hehe, yeah, I think I was up last night until after 1. Staying up late is one of my bad habits...ugh! I'm going to try and get a nap tomorrow though. Thanks for the concern - you are so right...I do run out of fuel eventually!

Thanks, Jordana! Hehe, I know you are probably very skilled at doing 12 things at once! Jeff came and told me tonight after he put the girls to bed that he walked into the bathroom to find Lindsay brushing her teeth *while* going to the bathroom. I turned and said to him, "Oh, she learned that from me." hehe

Hi Debi! Thanks for introducing yourself...it's nice to meet you! Aww, I'm glad we've inspired you in some way. I get so discouraged sometimes by what we haven't yet gotten around to and by the messy state of the house, but then I try to remember what we have done. One can only do so much in their spare time, so it's a given that this is going to be a drawn out process...Anyway, your words are very inspiring to *us*! Thank you!
