Slothlike Progress Continues in Cottage Kitchen

Hang on to your seats, folks, because I've installed a whopping TWO more cabinet doors since my last kitchen entry:) I know...I know! This project really shouldn't be taking this long. But it is, unfortunately. If I ever do this again in another house, I'm going to seriously consider using a paint sprayer. I don't know that it would speed up drying and curing time in this Tennessee humidity, but it certainly would save on the labor involved.

Today, I'll be working on getting another coat of paint on one side of the doors and the last of the shelf paper put down. I also hope to (antique) glaze the lower cabinet bases and drawers. So many steps, so little time... I'd love to have everything done by the time my company comes the second week of July, but then again, I would have loved to have been finished a month ago! It would be so nice to have the temporary storage cabinet removed from the dining area and everything back in place where it belongs. "A place for everything, Everything everywhere" perfectly describes our current living conditions, lol:)

Jordana said...: I never realized how much temperature and humidity affected drying time until we used oil paint on some trim back in February and March. According to the label, under ideal 75 degree, low humidity conditions things would be dry in 4 hours. In our 62-65 degree or so house (yes, we keep things cold) it was taking over a week, especially during rainy stretches.

Even slow progress is progress and although I know you wish you were all done last week, it will be done eventually. This too shall pass.; June 21, 2006 at 10:38 AM

Twice Remembered said...: I really appreciate the encouraging words:) Hubs keeps reminding me that I'm the only one here that puts myself on a time table for no reason, hehe. I'm just anxious to move on to a different project (tackling the ugly kitchen ceiling!)

I remember many times feeling like it would never be finished, but my husband would remind me that it would be so worth it, and he was right. Remember, the amount of time you will spend enjoying your new kitchen will be far greater than the amount of time you will have spent fixing it up. Hang in there! It's going to look so great!

We are going to be adding a pine plank ceiling and painting it white. This will cover over the horrible texture on our current ceiling. Here's a shot of what the planks will look like before painting (in our kitchen design scheme, near the top)
